Hurricanes 2023

Cool story on Caleb Delany, (similar to Devan Flanders) I'm hoping he has a big year in black and yellow.

"fozzie indicated he enjoyed me playing there so I suppose the rest is up to me and put myself into that position every week."
The same coach who prior to the forced switch wasn't convinced by the proposition of Jordie at 12.
Yawn.
His Canes coach wasn't exactly pushing the option hard either and when Foster made those comments Jordie was still finding his feet.Yep funny isn't it, remember how coaches have been slated for moving 15s to centre over the years? All the ones who 'knew' it would never work are probably the same ones who 'knew' 12 was JBs position!
It's a little different with Jordie though because he actually started out as predominantly a 12 for school, NZ under 20s and Canterbury in that first year, and then made the shift to fullback. It's not like he's been a 15 all his career and suddenly wants to move to the midfield. Scott Roberston even said back at the beginning of Jordie's career that he wanted to sign him as a 12 for the Crusaders.
I think the same argument applies to many other players. Positions at school or club level are often not where you are best employed at higher levels.
I just get tired of people trying to use this as evidence of Foster being incompetent. If you look at it without bias the story was that Foster openly questioned why he would want to move his best back from the previous year to a different position.Didn't Foster send his "best back" to wing or did I imagine that?

Massive future for Roigard.
Amen Canes, I thought he made a huge difference when he came on in Levin last week, and meant to ask if you had thought similar?

Yeah in my review he was the best player on the park so no surprises people have him as a bolter for the ABs.
He is tactically smart, his kicking and passing (both ways) are top notch and he loves to snipe and take on the line which I love to see.
-
@Canes4life Whoops sorry mate ,for some reason I missed your review (I miss forget going back sometimes), but it sounds like you and I are on same page with him being best player on park, I have been raving about him all week!
Yep Canes just went back and read your summary, and bugger me we got a problem, both went to same game and saw it pretty well the same!! -
The next All Blacks coaching appointment looms large over the Hurricanes, too, with Jason Holland firmly in Robertson’s test plans.
Holland first joined the Hurricanes as an assistant in 2015 and is about to start his fourth year at the helm.
The Hurricanes aren’t as advanced as the Blues and Crusaders in their succession planning yet.
They are instead working towards an early April timeframe when they expect the All Blacks appointment to bring certainty about Holland’s future beyond this year.
If Holland moves on, the Hurricanes could attempt to lure Palmerston North-based Rennie who led Wellington to the NPC title in 2000.
Former Hurricanes coaches John Plumtree is sitting idle after being cast aside by the All Blacks last year while Chris Boyd is in a mentoring role at the Highlanders.
Promoting respected forwards coach Chris Gibbes, who guided Waikato and Wellington before assisting Holland with the Hurricanes, is another option.

Rennie with Plumtree and Ellison as assistants would do nicely.
Gibbes can F off.
