On the NPC 2022 thread. Shame the way NZR treated him.
Ngani Laumape continues to train with the Turbos and while he would like to wear black again, and to do so would have to play for Manawatū, he will be joining Panasonic in Japan.
Wonder when we will all hear what Barrett is doing.
He will stay at the Canes I think.
Hope so. Canes are not the team they were and losing Barrett would be a blow. I want 5 strong teams too so Canes and Highlanders need to keep their best players
Agreed we don't want SR weakened anymore.

@reprobate Yep, but he's not in control. The selectors are and they've made it clear they see him as a fullback.
He needs to find out where Razor sees his position....
Razor was saying even last year if he could sign any player outside the squad he has got it would be Jordie. And I have heard him say before that he likes Jordie at 12.

What would he then do with the incumbent AB 12? Move him to fullback? Oh, that's right he already has the AB 14 that he says should be at 15.

Although some player signings haven't been confirmed, sometimes instagram/FB posts can give us clues:
The re-signing of PU-J, Rakete-Stones and Iose, for example, hasn't been announced but they appear in this post (from 22 August 2022).
Man, Savea looks so old in that post. Time to move on I'd say.
-
@Stargazer You’d have to think they’d be staying based entirely on the fact that they weren’t included in the farewell post the likes of JGB and O’Reilly got.
On a side note I thought Rakete-Stones and a Iose had another year left.
-
@mikey07 If contract negotiations were still ongoing at the time they posted those farewell posts, they obviously couldn't say anything about those players returning, or not returning. For example, if they were - at the time - talking to one of those player's agent, another franchise (or overseas club) could still have made an offer they couldn't refuse.
No, R-S and Iose's contracts expired this year.
-
@Canes4life Jules was in the same NZ 20's side as 1 of his coaches Tyler Bleyendal and then the yr after the same Canes side as another coach CJ🙂

I haven't kept up with signings until now, but would suggest if O'Reilly going, he will be a loss, while never a top line hooker, he is handy in the squad, Amosa and Colsey need back up, and disappoint me a bit that Canes didn't sign Tyrone Thompson from HB, really thing he's got a pretty good future.

He might want to go. Otherwise its strnage that he's been let go. He was good this year in super rugby when he played. And Coles won't be around for too much longer
-
@Canes4life that can't be far off but I have to say he's surprised me with how well he's played since he came back to NZ. I was super against signing him on his return but I think we got some decent value from him.
-
@Paekakboyz Needs to move on though IMO his stupid cut in and jam the midfield on defence has created a few tries this year better off looking to the future.
-
@Paekakboyz he's well passed it though to be fair. When you compare him to the top wingers now he's a couple of rungs down the ladder.
The injection of guys like Sullivan and Moorby into the Canes backline this year showed what can happen when you inject young talent over those players that have done their dash.

Who's Amosa? haha. Despite being injured, I expect Jacob Devery will get that third hooker spot after some strong performances for the Canes early on in the season.
I think the Canes might also be keeping one eye on Vernon Bason who I understand is a freakish hooker out of Fielding Boys High School. I haven't actually seen him play but I've heard from people close to School Boy rugby that he's a pretty impressive young kid.
Apparently he's already signed for the Turbos for next season. Hopefully the Canes don't let him go like other top notch Fielding players who ended up as All Blacks.
There's also Raymond Tuputupu who was one of the NZ Under 20 hookers this year.
-
@Canes4life I thought it would go to Tuputupu or Kereru-Symes.
There’s so much options out there for that 3rd spot. -

Thanks mate, haven't really kept up with those options, will take note of them hopefully.
