Here's the best I've seen since I've been watching seriously, so it covers both era's - and shows just how old I am...
Note on my fullback choices: Blanco, JPR & Cully. All a bit different but are streets ahead of any other 15's IMHO, and I can't pick my favourite. I'd also love to have Mike Gibson in the starting XV, but the Ma'a/Conrad combination was just too good. Oh, and I know bugger-all about front-row stuff.

Ooooooooo. The reason I didn't pick him is because it's meant to be best of all time in their positions. And he's not a better six then either burgers or Collins personally. Although nearly picked him over mcCaw

Also good in a very corny 70's/80's TV sports show called "Superstars". A very good all round athlete.

Dito previous coment. Have you actually watched him?
Actually, good call: No I haven't.
And there's a reason for that: coz he's really good at club level, and does not play tests.
I wonder if he's better than Gorgodze?
And for the record Michael Jones doesn't make my XV, because Kaino.
The best loose forward trio I've ever seen ... better than Whetton-Jones-Shelford, or Shaw-Mourie-Mexted, or Hill-Back-Dallaglio, or ... can't think of too many more combos who may be comparable ... is Kaino-McCaw-Read (2010 version ... ).
You'd have to be be fucking amazeballs to be better than 2010 Kaino, against the best teams in the world.
And Burger gets a mention coz he goes ok in club footy.
Yay.
Sorry (not really) but I think picking him is up there with picking Parisse so you're seen to be looking wider.

We've all seen Burger. He's pretty good in a shit team, I'd say at least ten blokes across just the Tri nations teams who could outplay him with one hand tied behind their backs.

The England team of that period was outstanding. The likes of John Pullen & Bill Beaumont were some of England's best-ever players

Hmm. Not sure I quite agree. We did have some of our greats playing then, but also some pretty ordinary journeymen getting quite a few caps. Add in a revolving door selection policy, unfathomable coaching and in the main our team was shite for ten years or more. We had one or two stand out games but they were rare.
On the whole I’d say somewhat less than the sum of their parts.

I tend to agree with you - I know which one I would pay the most to see play. However Merhtens suited the All Blacks way of playing (at that time) much more so than Larkham would have, and of course vice-versa. In a similar way that Andrew suited England's way of playing in the 90's much more than Barnes, though most would say Barnes was the better player.
-
You're right. For some reason I thought England were really successful between 72-75, but their 5N's record was actually shite. Great results on tour though

I can never forgive the great Bill McLaren for naming Rob Andrew as his all time greatest 10.
