The Stead-Latham combo strikes again!
We won the WTC in spite of Stead, not because of him.
Yep, it really looks like that, every time Kane is out our performance drops across the board. That's an embarrassing result.
To be fair Kane played in game 1 and we weren't much better
-
One brightside: Daryl Mitchell's form. I remember hoping that Kane would delay the declaration v Pakistan for another over or two so that all-rounder Son-of-John could slog his way to a first - and possibly only - test century, given likely team selections.
Now Daryl is opening the batting in T20I World Cups, has back to back Test centuries and a fifty in England, and was the guy batting with the tail like Watling last night.

@Donsteppa The Canterbury cartel leading NZ cricket into oblivion.
What a fall from grace. From WTC champs to home losses to the Bangles and Proteas, and staring down the barrel of a series sweep to an England team who hadn't won a test in 16 previous attempts

Damn right.
The decline was inevitable but I didn’t expect it to happen this soon.
I pretty confidently predicted a win over this England team but what a turnaround they’ve had unfortunately coinciding with us shitting the bed.
Looks like we’re in for a long road of being also rans in the WTC.

Kind of a fall from grace for a lot of sports lately.
Cricket, rugby, soccer (just watched us lose at the pub), leagueEdit, no idea why I wrote league.

Or Soccer. Not sure anyone expects the All Whites to qualify for the WC.

Yeah lunch beers... little optimistic I guess. But it was only 0 - 1 With a ton of chances to score, and a disallowed goal.

Looks like we’re in for a long road of being also rans in the WTC.
It also coincides with McCullum taking the reigns and getting them in a better state mentally. At 93/4 they were ripe for the same kind of collapse they've pulled off in the previous 16 tests before this series. If England continue like this there will be a statue of McCullum at Lords before long.

Ach. It’s you guys that are shitting the bed. You set us a target above anything done before at Trent Bridge, after a great first innings and a pretty good second innings. Had our two in form batsmen out cheaply but then lost to an out of the blue innings from Bairstow. For sure there were some pies bowled but equally some decent stuff that he just slaughtered. Plus a bit of good luck. Sometimes it’s just not your day and that was today for your guys, well half of today. That doesn’t make you lot a shit team and it doesn’t suddenly make us that good. If Bairstow gets one of his “meh” days, you win the test.

Far too reasonable. That's a downvote from me

You need to read far more Wisden and be more obnoxious, arrogant and offensive. Double downvote from me

Yeah someone on here ( can’t remember who and can’t be bothered scrolling up ) said with McCullum in charge there was definitely cause to be concerned.
“Ha” I scoffed.
What do I know ?
England are already 2-0 which I think is what I predicted the BCs would end up at.

Well losing at home to the hapless Bangles certainly does.

giving up 300 in 50 overs in a test is actually retarded. Bad bowling, but worse captaincy. There are no fielding restrictions for fucks sake!!! just dumb, unheard of bad cricket.
it's gone very wrong very quickly

It's unbelievable how Badly we're playing this year... tended to start with that embarrassing loss in our own backyard to the Banglas & these poor performances just keep continuing, a few injuries haven't helped, but that's no excuse.

Yeow. I stand corrected. We appear to be missing Kane's captaincy
His batting would've definitely helped... but his captaincy would not have made much diff, as he isn't a proactive captain anyway.

Maybe I got too used to BMac shifting fielders every two seconds into weird and wonderful positions, but Latham can be the exact opposite.
Cool calm heads at the right time are often what's needed... but when you're getting your arse kicked at home by Bangladesh, at least appear slightly aware of the magnitude of what's happening. Perhaps show a little bit more intent [or desperation], stop painting by numbers, and start trying any fielding or bowling change to turn things around...

@MN5 I was worried about Baz, especially in combination with Stokes.
I understand all the logical, rational reasons why it's perfectly fine for our relatively recent Black Caps captain to coach England to victory against us in the professional era.
But right now I'm still seething and Baz can get in the bin, preferably after handing back his passport!
