@nzbloke Totally agree with Howden we need that physicality that Prinseep doesn’t bring.
Was impressed with Savea and his game like you said if he consistently did it and didn’t drift in and out of games it would be awesome.
Yeah, Howden is stronger, also more athletic & skillful.
When J.Savea is fired up like that throughout a match he's lethal.

Real brain explosion stuff by Canes kicking for the corner, when we could've slotted a very handy 3pointer to go into golden point time.
I wonder what the Crusaders would do in a similar situation. Against the Canes

Given the way Mo’unga was kicking yesterday, I would’ve hoped we kicked for the corner…

Crusaders in general play the percentages well, so reckon they would've gone for the 3pointer to go to extra time, also in that match the Canes played bloody well in the forwards... for years the Crusaders have had the edge over the other NZ teams because they're better drilled in the forwards.

@gt12 looked like that call came from the coaches
The retards who appointed another retard as their captain?
Well I was yelling to do exactly what they did, what was point of going for a draw, play extra time and still maybe not win, and they got another game on Tuesday night??
Sorry fellas , but to be calling people retards kind of shows something about you, especially when it was right call. If Jordie had taken kick attempt and missed you would be moaning for not goin to corner. The weakness in this analysis is that it was exactly one chance to score (time is up) versus 90% draw then a 50/50 with time to score or lose.
How many lineout drive tries have the Canes scored this year? I honestly don’t know but I’ll bet it is zero (or basically that).
Edit: @fooba seems to suggest it is zero
https://www.forum.thesilverfern.com/topic/4719/hurricanes-2022/704And the weakness of that argument is to say the Canes were going to go for a lineout drive. Canes have scored off lineouts, maybe not off a drive maybe.
Fair point, although either way they'd need to secure their line-out which you seem to be assuming. So far this year, they've had (from ESPN):
Crusaders: 6/10
Chiefs: 8/10
MP: 10/12
Landers: 8/10
Blues: 8/8
Saders: 9/11Not exactly eye popping success.
Edit: BTW, I think they've scoreed three times off line-outs via two Jordie breaks (Saders, MP) and oe great move for Savea (Chiefs). Given that it hasn't been a huge weapon for them, and given that they were against the Saders, I still find it really confusing, especially given that any conceded penalty within the Saders half could be kickable by Jordie.

I guess another way to look at it, if not for Golden point, would they have taken the shot? Probably not!
We have seen time and time again, you take the points against the Crusaders, and I think in that situation, you still do.
You kick the goal, then reset, going into golden point where your opposition have conceded a penalty to do so, puts that little bit more pressure on them.
Ultimately I think the Hurricanes were in a tough spot there, but IMO they took the wrong option.

I reckon if there no golden point I would have a different thought, I would then say go for goal!

That was one of the very few times I've seen J.Savea have a good work rate through a whole game, if he could play like that every match he'd be an incumbent on the wing for the Canes, but unfortunately he tends to be too lazy on most occasions.
Shakespeare summed up this performance well: “But soft! What sight through yonder tackle breaks? It is the beast, and Julian is the one!”

Going for the corner was absolutely the right call.
Whether it's normal time or golden point, you want to be in the best position to win the game. That was the opportunity.
How they try and score is a another story, quick ball and up the midfield would be a better idea due to our known weakness trying to score tight forward tries.
Put Jordie in the pocket for a droppie or keep phasing.

Without passenger Prinsep I thought we were much improved physically. Of the dreaded trio (Blackwell, JGB & Prinsep) I think he's the weakest so it's noticeable when someone else plays in his place.
I thought Scrafton had a good game too, lots of physical carries. But Holland seems to have a hard on for subbing off whichever lock partners Blackwell.
I hope IWL is in soon.

Reilly was really good. He hasn't a lot of fans among the Ferners but we have to admit he had a flawless afternoon.
Have always thought O'Reilly was a good hooker, has good pace too.

Scrafton is our best lock, Blackwell should be the one subbed off during a match... yeah, hope IWL does return very soon, for me our best locking combo would be Scrafton/IWL.
