All we have to do is beat the Aussie teams and we should get in 😂
8 out of 12 making it will certainly help. Esp with the 2 new team and some weak Aussie teams. And the highlanders haven't won yet
You only have to be better than Rebels, Force, Drua and Moana Pasifika….
Oh hang on. -

Haha, Jason Holland just said he thought JGB was "solid" today.
He's been chubby for ages, solid is aPC way of putting it
JGB is fat and slow, and his arse looks even bigger when he plays for the Lions in those white shorts

@crucial you'd expect us to win those but let's be honest, this team's a lottery under Holland.
Wake me when he's gone. The only hope is that we don't lose all our best players before he leaves

Soon as Love slotted back in at 10 he sparked the Canes backline with his pace to help us score a top try in the corner.
Thought the tight-five & loosies A.Savea & Kirifi went well - outstanding power try by A.Savea, showed yet again how effective his leg drive is.
There was a big improvement with Perenara's passing game & his all-round urgency.
I know J.Barrett wants to play in the midfield, but at this stage he's more value to the Canes playing at 15... we already have two very good midfielders, Umaga-Jensen & Sullivan.
Seems the Canes biggest threat is our coach rather than the other teams
Really annoys ya, if we actually selected our best team we would have a bloody good side. -
Watching the Highlights, ENS continues to be pretty disappointing - he was beaten by Love for the J Savea try then gave up the penalty which led to the A Savea try.
He ran well tonight (52 off 7 runs), but as usual he made as many tackles as he missed (2,2).
I don’t think he’s better than Lowe, and he’s running out of time to justify the huge amount of chances he’s had with this franchise.
We really need a better back three. If we could recruit a Rayasi or another winger who is getting little time, we’d be far more dangerous. We miss Alaimalo (pre getting jumped on by Clarke) a lot.

Continuing with the stat chat, although Tupaea had one great run today that led to a try, he’s still a very mixed bag. He touches the ball heaps - 15 runs, 9 passes, 34 metres,, 6 offloads, but on defense he still struggles with 6 made and 3 missed. Plus the stats don't count the missed catches and poor passes that didn’t turn into turnovers.
On the other side, although Jordie was relatively quiet, I thought he did quite well in his first game back at 12. They got the ball in his hands about the same amount as JGB, with Jordie having 11 passes, 9 runs, and 33 metres (2nd highest in the backs). He made 15 and missed 1, making him the equal highest tackler for the Canes too.
I think they need a 13 who is a threat to make it work (Proctor was basically unseen with 9 passes, 3 runs, 2 metres) but if they commit to Love (not a 15), Jordie, PUJ as an inside back combination they could be fun to watch. Personally I’d put Goosen or Moorby at 15 (and the other on the bench) and bring Rayasi into the starting lineup.

Watching this game I still don't get the hype from the canes around Love. He strikes me as probably as good as Trask at this stage.
His inexperience showed a few times in his decision making. In one instance he caught a hurried long kick near touch with lots of time to play. Had scattered defenders in front. If he ran angled toward support likely outcome was a ruck near halfway. Instead he tried a long pass infield which wasn’t going to achieve anything except give the opposition time to organise themselves and to make it worse the ball bounced. End result was a line out on the opposite side only 5 metres up from his catch.
He looks more a 10 to me. One that needs time in that jersey to come right. Like Perofeta did.

You wouldn't have known he was playing in the 1st half. ENS needs to get involved more.
try then gave up the penalty which led to the A Savea try.
That was really poor as Gatland was calling for the ball. But nope...
With the players available I would move Narawa to the wing as he doesn't have a great kicking game.

ENS has early DMac problems. The guy needs space and therefore goes looking for it. His skill level is such that if he works out an effective way of playing he could be very good (which is why I think he is being given the opportunity as experience is his best teacher) but I agree that it is very debatable how long he can be persevered with.
He's the type of guy that could go to France and pop up in a couple of years of a constant diet of playing as 'one that got away'. We just don't have those long seasons and every game matters. -
Bryn Gatland has been known for clutch plays in his time, and just as his team had to remain calm to close things out, a midfield scrum win saw ball his way, and he reeled off a brilliant touch finder which doubled as a 50-22 and gave the Chiefs the lineout from which they could get the W.
I really dislike this rule. Unsure why it was introduced.

Yeah, he's certainly a 10 & will be a very good one, shows his inexperience at times, a bit more composure will come with more game time at this level... Love is clearly our best 10 though, has a long punt to help us exit our 22 well, also plenty of gas to run at the line, so keeps the defence guessing, they're not sure whether he's going to pass, run or kick.
Garden-Bachop doesn't have a long punt or the gas, making him a pretty average 10. -

I still wonder about Love. But who else have we got. The other options look a bit 2nd rate

Love definitely has the goods at 10... he's not helped with us having a coach that makes too many changes every week.

Agreed, he looks more like a 10 to me aswell. The best I've seen Love play was that last 15 minutes against the Blues in Dunedin, he came on and really commanded the ball from the get go and his willingness to run the ball really suits our style. Hopefully we see more of that moving forward.
It seems to be a trend in this team though, there just isn't any consistency in selection so how can a player get any momentum in their game when Holland chops and changes so much.

Didn't you just agree two posts before that that he needs to grow into the job?
I wouldn't say he 'has the goods'. He has potential and might be the Canes best option from a scant bag of options but he has a long way to go.
