TV Reports are that Hurricanes can't field a team. Announcement likely this morning.
What a cop out. Are there not more players floating around that they could ring in to at least make up a team. Look at the 'Ikale Tahi when they took on the ABs last season. They called up players from Auckland, Christshurch and Wellington club rugby sides for goodness sake, what is stopping the Hurricanes from doing likewise?
Apples and oranges. Hurricanes are in a professional competition where every scoreboard point matters, if they have the option to postpone the game to a time where they will have a stronger team then they'll take that option - why would they put out a severely weakened team increasing the risk of losing? Tonga didn't have the ability to postpone their game.
I'd rather we put out a weakened team than not get to watch any rugby at all... also every other team is going to have the same ongoing problems throughout the comp anyway.
It s does get to the point where its become a farce. And maybe risky to unfit or unconditioned players if too many new players are dragged in at the last minute

True, but in the situation we're in if we want to watch any rugby unfortunately all these late changes are just going to be part of the game.

Also bloody hard to russle up the extra players in a couple of days, Tonga had a much longer admin and training build up
A good number of the Tongan players were in full time work (non professional rugby) and had to take time as little time off as possible so they probably had barely a week to prepare. There were some preferred players approached that declined, presumably because of the employment situation, and the Tongan management were really making calls to fill their roster until very late in the piece.
If you go along to Rugby League Park about 6.30am you will see a lot of prospective players training under the tutelage of the Hurricanes/Lions staff so that is just a start if you need to rustle up players.

I'm not sure every other team is going to have 20 positive cases at a time.

@higgins Most of the Hurricanes 'B' players are playing for Moana Pasifika
If you are referring to Danny Toala and Lolagi Visinia, they were very much bit players who barely laced up their boots on match days so that does not wash. Referring to all those other players from within the Hurricanes catchment now at the MP, well they were not wanted by Mr. Holland so are hardly Hurricanes B players as you describe them.

That's a long winded way to describe 'B' players.
-
@toddy If they are not in the squad that makes them C Team players, in Mr. Holland's opinion, at best. What are the Hurricanes scared of if they are not prepared to front up against team that has a lot of players rated at that level, even with a number of the next best Wellington/Manawatu players available? There were no problems with them doing that last week.

Bonus points are likely going to be important, so why would the coach risk it if there is another option?
-
Why don't they make the next game between the two sides (in two weeks time) double points. Therefore, if the Hurricanes win with a bonus point they will take home 10 points, and on the other hand if Moana Pasifika upset they could potentially take home 8 points, or 10 points if they win big.
Same rules could apply for M.P's matches against the Chiefs and Blues aswell.
I can't really see M.P catching up on games without being physically broken by the pointy end of the comp.

This competition is looking more and more amateur every week dealing with these restrictions.
