if that is the case, I am guessing no point MP even naming a team, unless some of you imported polish locals based in the franchise area start lacing up
...............in which case let me have a quick bet on Moana first lol

@kiwimurph Geez, if this game can't go ahead, that will be the third MP game to be postponed/cancelled. Can't see MP play all these games at a later date. Maybe the Canes should just play their U20s if they're Covid free.

Unlike the A-League and NBL where you can make up postponed games by playing 3 times in a week, I don't know how they will be able to solve this. Simply sharing points isn't a fair outcome, and MP will be the most affected from a player welfare perspective.

“On a brighter note we are very close to confirming the rescheduling of Moana Pasifika’s previous two postponed matches against the Blues and Chiefs and are confident we can also reschedule the Hurricanes match later in the season.”
Hard to see how it can be done though. I guess a postponed match week in one option but it will be tough on one side unless the 2 teams are resting in the same week

TV Reports are that Hurricanes can't field a team. Announcement likely this morning.
What a cop out. Are there not more players floating around that they could ring in to at least make up a team. Look at the 'Ikale Tahi when they took on the ABs last season. They called up players from Auckland, Christshurch and Wellington club rugby sides for goodness sake, what is stopping the Hurricanes from doing likewise?
-
How the hell are MP going to fit in 3 postponed games in between their current fixtures? Big ask for them.

Apples and oranges. Hurricanes are in a professional competition where every scoreboard point matters, if they have the option to postpone the game to a time where they will have a stronger team then they'll take that option - why would they put out a severely weakened team increasing the risk of losing? Tonga didn't have the ability to postpone their game.

Also bloody hard to russle up the extra players in a couple of days, Tonga had a much longer admin and training build up

I'd rather we put out a weakened team than not get to watch any rugby at all... also every other team is going to have the same ongoing problems throughout the comp anyway.

It s does get to the point where its become a farce. And maybe risky to unfit or unconditioned players if too many new players are dragged in at the last minute

True, but in the situation we're in if we want to watch any rugby unfortunately all these late changes are just going to be part of the game.

A good number of the Tongan players were in full time work (non professional rugby) and had to take time as little time off as possible so they probably had barely a week to prepare. There were some preferred players approached that declined, presumably because of the employment situation, and the Tongan management were really making calls to fill their roster until very late in the piece.
If you go along to Rugby League Park about 6.30am you will see a lot of prospective players training under the tutelage of the Hurricanes/Lions staff so that is just a start if you need to rustle up players.
