Frizell had a good test vs Argentina early on and there was one vs Australia in 2020 where he spent the day trucking it up at first receiver where I thought he was good. Mainly he's been OK without being outstanding.
He's bigger and less mobile than our other options and they've used him tighter, so you don't see him making big runs in the tramlines.
Simple fact is though, that no-one has consistently nailed 6. I hope someone does this year and I don't care who it is.
i think until last year he'd stopped others getting more than a game or two in a row to prove themselves becuase he kept getting chances
I sit very much between the two view points, i feel he is/can be very mobile and attacking, scored a hatrick on debut at super level....but cant convert on the big stage, dont know if it is just because its against higher level opposition or there is some mental aspect, like reverse nonu who tended to get better in the black jersey
-
@Kiwiwomble He may suddenly become the answer, then - like Nonu.
You weren't around here in 2007, but Nonu's name was mud and no-one wanted him near the ABs (me and a guy called Mojo were the last to give up on him).
I distinctly recall someone writing, "Don't let the door hit your arse on the way out, Nonu"!

just to be clear...i was a highlanders fan in 2013....he was atrocious...but even that year played well for the AB's (from memory)
maybe frizzel will...but there are other i think need to be given as much of a chance before he gets another

I hope someone does. Foster & McDonald seem to have got the best out of Akira in the last year or two so perhaps he (or Frizzell) will kick on.

It was also said he might be crap in Super Rugby, but put a Black jersey on him and all hell broke loose. Ma'a may have had brain-farts in his early career, but it was clear he was working hard on his game. Can we say the same about Frizzell?
Has Cane ever played 6?

For the ABs, not as a starter. Maybe as a sub?

Weird they have been so insistent on having at 7.
He is the hardest hitting loose forward we have with a high work rate. Seems like he'd be good there - bar the lack of lineout height. -

Why move Cane at this late stage of his career, if you can move Papali'i?
Yay 3 7s in the loose forwards
-
@Machpants we tried that already haven't we?
-
@taniwharugby Cane, A Savea and ?

Sounds like someone never followed Michael Jones’s career
-
@Stargazer Dalton, I thought they ran out together last year at one point.

@MN5 Sounds like someone isn't living in the past.
That’s where you learn all the good tricks like not turning fullbacks into centres, especially not in World Cup year.

That certainly wasn't the tenor of the discussion here in 2007. Nonu was about as welcome in the ABs as George Bridge.

I think Nonu even mentioned it that missing the 07 RWC squad was a real wake-up call moment in his career.
-
@ACT-Crusader It was quite a remarkable turnaround.
2007 he had 2 appearances off the bench for the ABs and got dropped. (One of those I can still recall was a 5 minute nightmare, where I finally conceded he wasn't up to going to the RWC).
2008 he played 17 tests and was a firm fixture by the end.

Frizzell needs to miss the 2023 RWC squad to fulfill his potential..

Haha.
Although if he’s following the Nonu path, he needs to make 2023, get dropped for 2027 and then from 2028-2031 be an absolute gun and be a key piece for the 2031 RWC
