A fraction early.
We could have kept swinging for another 5 or so overs. Might have scored another 50. If Latham thinks 520 is enough then there's no issue with losing our last few wickets cheaply.
Maybe not Thinking maybe overs left in the game with weather dicey on day 4 and 5.
If we can use the pace and bounce well,
it will trouble the Bangladesh bats,
This Wkt will suit Jamieson especially.Yeah, as I was saying I am OK with a declaration. I just thought with us scoring at such a rate we should have just kept going for another 20 minutes or so. If weather is likely to be bad then possibly we will hope only have to bat once.
I agree this is a pitch that Kylo in particular will enjoy. Wagner too.
Hopefully Southee doesn’t bowl pies again.
It’s ok Matt “Georgie” Henry isn’t playing.
Southee been to the pie shop this morning again.
He has of late I’ll admit.

It's the bounce that will get them. I am looking forward to Kylo having a bowl. He might rescue his average.
He could cause havoc if he gets his line right.
He might not get a bowl at this rate.

Bit of food poisoning in those pies apparently...

Whilst this position is awesome I’m still mightily fucked off we dropped a test AT HOME to these guys.
The dry pitch definitely suited the Bangles more than us, we should do everything we can to avoid serving up pitches like that at home.
That said, without Kane our leadership got exposed badly, we should still have been far too good for them with this side.

Just a confluence of factors - a lot of worst performances in a while from us, some great performances from the other side, no Kane, we just couldn't do it. Maybe leadership would have helped pull it back, maybe we just had a bad game. Back to normal transmission this test.

Bangladesh win the toss and bowl.
Mitchell in for Ravindra. Which, on recent form, makes the middle order seem a bit stronger.
Acid is on the top six to make starts and build on them. And a much improved performance with the ball is needed from Southee and Jamieson.
To me they’re similar in that they’re competent batsmen but next to nothing bowlers at this level. Judging by their first class stats they both average about a wicket or so per match. No where near good enough.
Calling either of them true All rounders is a massive stretch.
Still rate Mitchell a better bowling option than Ravindra on any deck at this stage & Mitchell has also scored a couple of test hundreds too, which also makes our batting stronger.
I suppose Mitch could become that Styris/Astle/McMillan type. Not world class as a batsman but a useful change bowler when needed as all those three were. They did play in an era where we expected less though.
Yeah, Mitchell isn't going to be a world class all-rounder... we're still looking for one, we've had plenty of top all-rounders before, so we should be able to find another one in the near future.
Our batting was very tentative in the first test... good to see that their movements are much more positive, moving the feet well, getting in line with the ball & leaving when needed.
It's ridiculous when batsmen leave the ball & get cleaned bowled or LBW... if you feel the ball is threatening your stumps get in line with it & play with soft hands so there's not much chance of the ball carrying to the keeper or slips.
I don’t reckon. They’re pretty scarce at the best of times and when Mitchell Starc is rated fifth best in the world you know that there’s a dearth of talent all over the world. Another Cairns, Vettori or especially Paddles would be great but don’t hold your breath.
India are just being greedy with Jadeja and Ashwin playing at the same time.
You're probably right - just such a big asset to have a top all-rounder in your side... yeah, don't see Starc as much of an all-rounder, he's basically a bloody slogger with the bat.
Those two calls by the umpire were shockers... the Banglas must have given him a gold watch
All rounder is a term that’s thrown round far too liberally. I think there’s only Holder, Al Hasan, Jadeja, Ashwin and Stokes playing now that deserve the label.
Paddles himself admitted he was really only “just” an all rounder given his record with the bat.
Yeah, a true all-rounder has the ability to consistently make a big diff to his team with either bat or ball... Hadlee's batting was very handy for us when we needed runs quickly, the bloke was a superb striker of the ball, it was unusual how he bowled right-handed, but use to bat left-handed.
Not usual but not necessarily that unheard of for bowler to bat the wrong way around.
Without thinking too hard I can name:
Martin Sneddon
Gary Troupe (both contemporaries of Hadlee)
Stuart Broad
Ben Stokes
Jimmy Anderson
Trent BoultThere are others but that would require research.
I'd go as far as to say it is in fact very usual.
Not many left hand bats are actually left handed at all.
Of the 4 in the current NZ eleven. Only Wagner is actually left handed.

Not in the XI but weirdly Kane is a lefty also, even though the only cricket things he does left handed is sign his IPL contracts and toss.

If I can compare my pathetic cricketing ability to these guys I bat and bowl left handed, couldn’t imagine doing it the other way round although I did have to practice my golf chipping right handed as the plastic clubs were the wrong way round for me in the game we played in the pool over the break
Apparently a lot of the guys who are right handed but bat left handed do so because their dominant ( right ) hand leads the way while batting ?
Alastair Cook - England
Kumar Sangakkara - Sri Lanka
Brian Lara — West Indies
Shivnarine Chanderpaul — West Indies
Allan Border — Australia
Graeme Smith — South Africa
Matthew Hayden — Australia
David Gower — England
Justin Langer — Australia
Mark Taylor — AustraliaTop ten left handers, some bloody handy names there, I wonder how many of them were natural right handers though ?
