All Blacks vs Springboks I

As mentioned earlier our set piece was poor, we lost a number of lineouts and our scrum was pinged a number of times. It can't be that bad two weeks and a row.

ultimately the ABs' loose style of play is predicated upon breaking a few tackles and getting some ruck or knock-on turnover.
Oh and usually much better support play than we saw tonight. Gotta say your spacing on attack was fucked - might as well just have kicked it downfield.
No drop-behind passing, no scissors or switches, no short kicks. What the fuck was Beaugan doing? Guy was absent and looked like a rabbit in the headlights.
-
Absolutely pathetic performance from the ABs. I honestly can’t remember a worse performance across 80min. So glad we already extended the contract of the coach who got them up for the big occasion.
Hopefully that is George Bridge’s last test. Ben Blair mk2.
He was meant to be the high ball guy. If he can’t do that, what does he do?ABs Very lucky Boks showed no interest in playing rugby. Even doing that they should have won. Those who said they were going to be easy beats are looking pretty stupid right now.
-
If there’s one thing that came out of tonights game for the All Blacks Jordie Barrett is your number 1 fullback moving forward.
Not even a debate -
@stargazer part may have been TJP but also there was not much space. He is still learning 2nd five whereas Tupea has played it all along. Tupea is starting to grow on me.

@machpants I think Smith was a one-game only captain for his 100th?
He’s been captain for the landers loads so wouldn’t be hugely out of the blue
-
@chimoaus said in All Blacks vs Springboks I:
We really missed Whitelock and Aaron tonight. That backline tonight was truly turgid.
And Mounga

Nope next in line, then out
-
Bizarrely, Bridge catching the ball would have stopped this being so close. That howler was the reason for such an awful game

-
Points are gold in Tests. Take the 3.
-
Quinn looks like he's got a bit about him. Well played sir.
-
Mauling against the Bokke is brave, but stupid
-
THe threshold for PT is pretty high ... must have been pretty close
-
-
Just a reminder that unavailable were Smith, Whitelock, Mounga, Papalii, and Jacobson.
-
Put in Smith, Whitelock and Mounga and we would have gotten a better performance.

Short memory, Argentina 1 2020. Much worse and we lost that
-
@kiwiwomble I wasn’t blaming him just saying he was off.

And England WC when it really counted,
Same game plans against us and we don’t cope well. -

Sure but there was still so many unforced individual errors. Would've still been there
-
I'm confident next week will be much better.
-
For all the shit Patrick got this week , he was great today. Very physical

Hopefully cooler heads under pressure.

I think the number one thing at training this week will be accuracy.

NH tour could be very interesting . I

As soon as he made his Micheal Collins impersonations and cost the try, the Boks weren’t doing anything else.

@tim said in All Blacks vs Springboks I:
@chimoaus Yep. Him at 13 and Rieko at 11 would have been nice.
With the performance of Havili tonight, we might need ALB at 12.

Why can't you guys play that shit against us?
Boks always lift for us. This has happened before.
Do you think it was the Boks pressure or were we just really shit?
That was mainly us. The Boks have been poor all year and the Argies played like them. We put them to bed.
For all the ref was mystifying, it wasn't him dropping passes or being absent at breakdowns. That's on us.
-
When Ritchie comes back, I’d be tempted to keep Jordie kicking. Has a longer kick and takes pressure of RM.
-
What really gaps my axe is that the first 11 points for the Bokke were gifts through brain farts. Piggybacking penalties downfield, incredibly poor skills, and shit decisions. And yet that's almost enough to win a game of footy.
Take that away, and they have absolutely nothing. A push on the 9, and something else - a scrum penalty?
Next week, more accuracy, different ref, its' on like kong.

SBW should be seen and not heard. Bloody hell.
He dropped straight into banter with ya mates chat
It's really all he's got. It's a really tough gig and maybe he should get some proper training and practice before going on live TV. Right now he's terrible.

I think we looked off in so many areas that few came out looking good

They constructed nothing offensively

Yep Jordie has kicked well, I wouldn’t take the job off him either.

ALB and RI would be a tasty combination. Jordan and Reece on the wings.
QT on the bench to win last minute games.

A fair few pointed out that he often does well of the bench. Just don't ever start him, still hasn't got the engine at international level

How many box kick bombs were there? Must have been close to some kind of Guiness Book of Records effort.

I think the one player whose stock went up the most with me was Blackadder. I already had Jordie as the first place 15. I hope the coaches will also start to question their assumptions about some of the 'strengths' of certain players (i.e., Bridge). We also need to start working on bringing through some young props.
