@hooroo When Akira made a big carry to their line in the 2nd half, and he was nowhere to be seen.
Smith on the field we score there.
Yeah that was disappointing because we were so close.
TJ was off tonight. For someone who’s pass isn’t swift, he needs to get to the breakdown quicker.
All in all though, happy for the team to get the win. These are young guys who are setting their place in AB history, so I’m proud of them.
Even though he didn’t play well, Retallick’s undefeated run against the Boks continues 😃

I assume Mo'unga will wear the 22 jersey next week; he only comes out of MIQ on Tuesday. Really a short prep time for a test match, even though his hotel room looks like half a gym on his instagram photos. The question is, who'll lose his spot. Surely not Jordie, so it will be between BB and Dmac.

Why can't you guys play that shit against us?
Boks always lift for us. This has happened before.
Do you think it was the Boks pressure or were we just really shit?
Bit of both. As I said earlier: changing combinations again and then landing in a completely different playing environment is going to have an effect against a more settled Bok lineup.
Boks have kept a very similar core through the tour and actually didn't change much. Maybe their execution was a few points better in the open, and they mauled a LOT better than last week. I'm surprised your coaches weren't examining footage from Brisvegas where the Wallabies barely conceded an inch to figure out how that happened.
Part of it is personnel on the Bok side - I think Orie is a non-contributor to the maul, and De Jager was better as a lift/drive instead of just being the lineout target. They also brought on Marx and Kitshoff very early. There's a range of moving parts there.
But ultimately the ABs' loose style of play is predicated upon breaking a few tackles and getting some ruck or knock-on turnover. Neither of which happened very much tonight. When you get turnover off phase play, there is opportunity. Off a kick there is barely any - Boks put one guy in the air with 2 support, you surround the ball with 3-5 blockers and support of your own, and your counterattack is nullified.
That was a tough watch after minute 3, I will say.

Bring back Whitelock as Captain.
He'll be back for the EOYT, so I assume he'll be captain again. Savea is just the replacement of the replacement captain.
Replacement of the replacement of the replacement (missed Smith)

About 90% of the team was off tonight. Wasn’t helped by the Boks negativity with stoppages and box kicks.

We didn't cope with the intensity. Will be better next week

@broughie He had a rest, last week. His game today was mostly a result of the bad passes from TJP and BB. He was very good on defence, something that is often overlooked.
Yeah, rough to blame havili TOO much when it’s taking five or six minutes to get through tj and bb, the rush defence was on him every time

So here's my 'Dave playing the long game' theory.
Step 1: Rennie kicks off his first year going all out against the ABs to see if he can figure them out. Finishes up with a win in his last game.
Step 2: bait NZ into keeping Foster on until after the next RWC. Two games at Eden Park? no way he's winning the Bledisloe back this year, but he can still come out of the series with a net gain and shackle the ABs with a clearly inept coach.
Step 3: World Champs come to town. Time to pull out the big guns (literally - Kerevi) and see if he can knock off the current world cup holders. Step 3 complete. Twice.
Clearly well on our way to a third RWC title.

Oh and usually much better support play than we saw tonight. Gotta say your spacing on attack was fucked - might as well just have kicked it downfield.
No drop-behind passing, no scissors or switches, no short kicks. What the fuck was Beaugan doing? Guy was absent and looked like a rabbit in the headlights.

Absolutely pathetic performance from the ABs. I honestly can’t remember a worse performance across 80min. So glad we already extended the contract of the coach who got them up for the big occasion.
Hopefully that is George Bridge’s last test. Ben Blair mk2.
He was meant to be the high ball guy. If he can’t do that, what does he do?ABs Very lucky Boks showed no interest in playing rugby. Even doing that they should have won. Those who said they were going to be easy beats are looking pretty stupid right now.

If there’s one thing that came out of tonights game for the All Blacks Jordie Barrett is your number 1 fullback moving forward.
Not even a debate -

@machpants I think Smith was a one-game only captain for his 100th?
He’s been captain for the landers loads so wouldn’t be hugely out of the blue

Nope next in line, then out
