All Blacks vs Pumas I

Something is not right with our bench, we have dropped our level and intensity in all matches this year when our bench came on.
It used to be a strength, but now a weakness.
Not sure if its the balance of the players, the quality or the plan they've been given when they come on, but things def not good enough.
in all seriousness it might at least partially be because some of those bench players have been "promoted", Savea and DMac for example were often very good off the bench, now we also have some former starters often on the bench (BB)...and it just seems to be taking too long to settle down

I'd like to see this team start (assuming Jordie is okay to play)
- George Bower
- Codie Taylor / Asafo Aumua (if Taylor is out I feel Aumua needs a run and think he would be a better starter than Samisoni)
- Angus Taávao (rotating out with Laulaula)
- Brodie Rettalick
- Scott Barrett
- Akira Ioane
- Ardie Savea/Dalton Papalií (Dalton to start if Ardie fails further concussion protocols)
- Luke Jacobson
- TJ Perenara
- Beauden Barrett
- Reiko Ioane
- David Havili
- Anton Leinert-Brown
- Will Jordan / Sevu Reece
- Jordie Barrett / Will Jordan (if Jordie is suspended I would like to see Jordan start at fullback with Reece coming onto the wing)
- Asafo Aumua / Samisoni Taukei'aho
- Ethan De Groot (another one that is a little undercooked)
- Nepo Laulaula
- Tupou Vaai
- Ethan Blackadder
- Brad Weber
- Damian McKenzie
- Brayden Ennor (had very little minutes so keen to see what he has off the bench).
-
@kiwiwomble @Bovidae yes but we have often done so much better with players when they come into the squad.
Looking at the players, there are some quality players, yet the standards have slipped considerably more than you would expect
Wasnt Moody likely to be back this week?

i think it comes down to fozzie changing things up each week so much, where as under hansen and post 2007 henry i feel there was more understanding on the best XV with the odd position being challenged and so bench player often knew thats where they were and so could focus on that role for a season....now it seems any position is up for grabs week to week, which on the surface is how it should be but in reality it means lots of people are trying to win it on their own when they come on
-
@taniwharugby I think Taukeiaho and Blackadder both coming on in the first half is definitely going to be take some sting out of the replacements in the 2nd half.

You've picked multiple players all over the place. Get off the fence...

@kirwan that's more to do with uncertainty of whether they will be playing or not due to injury/concussion/suspension. The first person listed is the one who I think should start.
Thought it was pretty obvious but have updated my post to make it clearer.

It was, was just being a dick. Too many bugs at work.

has to be a good sign

if Akira needs a rest, surely Ardie needs one as well..
-
So do you rest the players this game or the one before the Boks, clearly, they all need a rest before so it will be interesting to see how they rotate the players. I think Foxy said in that above audio clip that they don't intend on making wholesale changes.

Rotate in both, so you rest some here and some in the second. Gotta keep the momentum, and after Fosters fuck ups last year, they can't take Arg for granted.
-
Yep. I would bring 5 or 6 of those not used into the 23 each Puma game. Keep the competition going for places and try and develop combinations. Then best 23 for each match v Springboks.
Think maybe Papalii and Havili have earned a break to recharge next time. Want to have everyone firing for the Boks. -

We will have to make a few changes because of injuries to Ardie and Codie, possibly a suspension for Jordie Barrett too. That's quite a few enforced changes already. I'd be tempted to make minimal other changes and give combinations a chance to glue together a bit more.
I tend to agree. Coaching staff best placed to assess who might do with week to refresh before sharpener in Puma 2 prior to facing the Boks.
Other than that. Stick with best available team.
Plenty of chances for game time in EOYT.

Have you watched them recently?
They just about put away a 3rd string Wales team.
If it's not at least a 20 point margin then NZ should be worried.

Yes I have. I've also seen them get up after no games, covid cases, and a long time in lock down/quarantine to smash the ABs. Teams step up Vs ABs, and is pretty much the same squad. On paper ABs should smash them, but the same was said last year
