So this investigation is gonna be interesting. Think reckless by Verstappen and maybe a little bit naughty by Hamilton.
Great to see Max walk away, was pretty worrying at first.
How is it reckless from Max? He had the line...
In my slightly biased opinion I think Lewis was at fault.
I'm no Hamilton fanboy, save that he is English but to say Verstappen had the line to then imply it was all Hamilton at fault is somewhat disingenuous. Hamilton had the inside line and was practically level with Verstappen approaching the corner. Verstappen pulled out wide and then swooped in to close Hamilton out. Hamilton then backed off, but not far enough. Could he have done more? Yes. Could Verstappen have gone wider? Yes. The two of them had been going wheel to wheel for the sprint race on Saturday and were both very aggressive from the start of the GP.
They're racing drivers and they were racing.

Thats my view as well with the exception of the bolded bit. Hamilton had conceded in the sprint race that he couldn't keep up with Verstappen. He knew had had to get past early doors and then try and hold him off, as once he was gone, he was gone.
Its what sport is supposed to be about. Giving it 100% going toe to toe which means that occasionally these things will happen. It beats the shit out of watching regulation laps and then see who can do the best strategy / fastest pit stop.
I did agree with Max that watching Hamilton jump up for joy etc on the podium was disrespectful. But I know that's purely because of my bias. Opposite situation I'd be calling Hamilton a whiner.
-
Is it me or is Christian Horner turning into even more of a whiny bitch?
-
It's getting nice and feisty, with Verstappen damaged again by a Mercedes action! Utterly stupid action by Hamilton's team sees him the only one not to pit on the restart to change tyres, then had to go back in - basically started the race in last place. Managed to get all the way upto 3rd by having seemingly a dozen tyre changes, often 2 to 4 secs faster than anyone else because of it. Thenhe get's 2nd due to Vettel being disqualified! Craxy race
-
Watched the race yesterday and crazy is the right description. Seeing Hamilton all on his own on the grid was surreal. Fantastic drive to get back to second (or third really) from last place, then Alonso gets driver of the day just for holding him up for 10 laps, which admittedly he did very well. However to go from stone last to a couple of seconds from the winner was something special. For a guy that has won 6 of the las 7 world championships he doesn’t seem get driver of the day much. Too dislikeable as a person I guess.
-
He's been involved for a while but he's not at every race (maybe just the European ones?)
He's super arrogant and doesn't care who he pisses off. Which is great because he actually gives his real opinion.. and of course he's comfortable criticising Hamilton.
-
@duluth yeah was bloody funny when he criticised Vettel's team for their release in qualifying to the reps face then did a "but anyway".
Classic when he got all excited about seeing the start marshall he knew and ran over to talk to him "oh that's not the one I know" and turns back around.

So after a huge whine that Hamilton 'celebrated a win whilst he was in hospital getting checked', Verstappen drove over the top of Hamilton, ended up with his car parked on top. He just got out and walked away, not even checking Hamilton was alright. What a hypocritical fluffybunny
He got a 3 place grid penalty next race, to me just a racing incident like the previous one he was the victim of. I'm no huge fan of Hamilton, but Verstappen is such a whiney pussy, I'll be cheering for Lewis this season
-
@machpants I agree it's a racing incident.
And after several hours of deliberating, it was deemed Verstappen was at fault as his pass was “attempted too late for him to have the right to racing room” – and he was handed a three-place grid penalty plus two penalty points – the first on his licence in this 12-month period.
Not sure I agree with that, looked to me like he was alongside in turn 1 and got squeezed, but I'm not a F1 steward so WTF would I know.
Very happy for Daniel.
Couldn't support Hamilton in a month of Sundays.
-
@antipodean Reasonable about Hamilton, he’s just the only one who can beat ‘my pussy hurts’ Verstappen

Mexican Grand Prix was an absolute beauty. Awesome start from Verstappen to get first around the corner from 3rd after a poor start from Bottas. Then pit stops aside, he led the whole race easily.
But the best part was all about Perez. First ever Mexican to lead the Mexican Grand Prix & take the podium. It was a really emotional watch and you could see just how much the entire Red Bull crew, including Verstappen, were happy for him. Great stuff given the guy didn't even have a drive this time last year.
But fuck me, why does Hamilton have to be such a complete and utter fluffybunny. Miserable as all hell in the party going around them, then in his interview, basically says you could see how much more pace they had as Perez could keep up with me. I mean the guy is literally having one of the best days of his life and doing a huge amount for the Mexican fans and then you have to go and basically say "I'm so much better, it's just their car is so much faster today, but I could still win".
He often gets accused of being tone deaf, but sometimes he really doesn't help himself.

@majorrage i laughed out loud when i read his quote
for how many years now have you obviously had the fastest car Lewis? doesn't count then? I thought it was all about the driver?

To be fair I can’t remember too many times that Hamilton entered into that debate. Verstappen, Vettel on the other hand…
Oh and legions of fans from either side 😀

You don't have to enter it from the fast side...
