Re: Formula 1 2019
I see things have died down from the old 2019 thread, despite eerything actually looking a lot more exciting this year. However. Hamilton. He is without doubt a fantastic driver and without doubt in one of the two best cars. More importantly for me he is British so I have to cheerlead for him, but fuck me, what a dick he is. Apparently FI is now a sport for rich people. I never knew that, I thought anyone could rock up.

@catogrande Fucking LOL "Lewis Hamilton says Formula 1 is a 'billionaire boys' club' from his multi-million dollar mansion in Monaco"
When budgets are up in the stratosphere, quelle surprise! Nicki Lauda was a Pay Driver

So this investigation is gonna be interesting. Think reckless by Verstappen and maybe a little bit naughty by Hamilton.
Great to see Max walk away, was pretty worrying at first.
How is it reckless from Max? He had the line...
In my slightly biased opinion I think Lewis was at fault.

It was pretty much a racing incident, Lewis could have gone tighter, Max could have gone a little wider - neither gave and now we have an exciting series! It's not like it was a Schumacher vs Damon blatant ram off the road!
If next year's redesign does it's thing, we should see a lot more real racing like this

That was my view as well. Just about every corner from the flag drop was attacked with one or other giving way just in that one they called each other’s bluff.

He had the line, but had no idea where Lewis was and still pushed on - that's what makes it reckless. Le Clerc in almost identical situation wasn't reckless (but was still forced off the track). Although I guess Lewis backed off slightly in that one too.
Should racing incidents really be forcing guys off the track at over a hundred miles an hour?

No I wasn't a ram of the road but it was still illegal in my eyes

Yeah, Max went pretty fucken wide eh. The barrier is testament to that.

I'm no Hamilton fanboy, save that he is English but to say Verstappen had the line to then imply it was all Hamilton at fault is somewhat disingenuous. Hamilton had the inside line and was practically level with Verstappen approaching the corner. Verstappen pulled out wide and then swooped in to close Hamilton out. Hamilton then backed off, but not far enough. Could he have done more? Yes. Could Verstappen have gone wider? Yes. The two of them had been going wheel to wheel for the sprint race on Saturday and were both very aggressive from the start of the GP.
They're racing drivers and they were racing.

Thats my view as well with the exception of the bolded bit. Hamilton had conceded in the sprint race that he couldn't keep up with Verstappen. He knew had had to get past early doors and then try and hold him off, as once he was gone, he was gone.
Its what sport is supposed to be about. Giving it 100% going toe to toe which means that occasionally these things will happen. It beats the shit out of watching regulation laps and then see who can do the best strategy / fastest pit stop.
I did agree with Max that watching Hamilton jump up for joy etc on the podium was disrespectful. But I know that's purely because of my bias. Opposite situation I'd be calling Hamilton a whiner.
-
Is it me or is Christian Horner turning into even more of a whiny bitch?
-
It's getting nice and feisty, with Verstappen damaged again by a Mercedes action! Utterly stupid action by Hamilton's team sees him the only one not to pit on the restart to change tyres, then had to go back in - basically started the race in last place. Managed to get all the way upto 3rd by having seemingly a dozen tyre changes, often 2 to 4 secs faster than anyone else because of it. Thenhe get's 2nd due to Vettel being disqualified! Craxy race
-
Watched the race yesterday and crazy is the right description. Seeing Hamilton all on his own on the grid was surreal. Fantastic drive to get back to second (or third really) from last place, then Alonso gets driver of the day just for holding him up for 10 laps, which admittedly he did very well. However to go from stone last to a couple of seconds from the winner was something special. For a guy that has won 6 of the las 7 world championships he doesn’t seem get driver of the day much. Too dislikeable as a person I guess.
