Meanwhile Smith and Falcon are in Japan.Yeah, I get your pain around squad selection. But I suppose some decisions look worse in retrospect and you can’t always predict multiple injuries.
We have quite a few “bubbling under” 10s in (or just out of) NZ. Given the nature of the position being one where one guy gets priority for the season it’s difficult to keep hold of others who can see better opportunities elsewhere to grow and to make money.
I don’t know what went on selection wise at the Canes but they are in this place now and need to put their best option on the field.
I’m primarily confused why they prefer a part timer over a youngster (and they have two good young options).I wonder that too crucial, I would of thought that there not a lot to lose with Love or Morgan. I get a little pissed when Canes use journeyman who are not from area, or up and comers . What is to be acheived in long term with Leger?

I've had a week at camp, and now lots of wind down beers, so (combine iwth age) memory is not the best - but this is the worst canes line up that I can remember.
Cheifs to only equal the landers as most loser NZ SR team, no way canes will win this. A failure of selection compounding on an utter abortion of recruitment.

So those beers worked.....what does this mean?

Chiefs are on a SR losing streak that equals the Landers for NZ SR teams. The chiefs and Landers are currently the most loser NZ SR teams. Real losers, like 11 in a row, maybe 12, can't quite remember. Doesn't matter because it is an embarrassingly long losing streak for any team, let alone a NZ rugby team. However the chiefs will only remain equal and not exceed the record, cos they'll beat this pile of shit canes team Saturday. Simples

I hope Chiefs win this for multiple reasons. I am a Chiefs fan firstly but as an AB fan I hate to see guys like PUJ and Flanders relegated to the bench while mediocre players like Blackwell, Prinsep and Leger are starting. Leger is a weak 10 in the Mitre 10 FFS.
Leger doesn’t even play 10 at provincial level. He’s being used as a stopgap cover because he showed in early Chiefs games last year that he can adequately run the cutter at this level.
He’s actually not as bad as some are making out here if you just need someone to catch pass and kick.yep, if I recall he played at 10 for the Chiefs opening game of 2019 after Debreceni, Mackenzie and Falcon were all unavailable.

Just dug up the highlights of that match.
Quite a nifty little cross-kick try from Ledger at 1:18:

JGB and Hickey are already firmly from the bottom of the barrel of 1st 5s. -

JGB has been more than Ok for the Canes this year and last. If Leger can do as well I'll be happy enough
“More than ok” seems to be the Hurricanes new moto.
“A bit better than mediocre” was too ambitious. -

O'Neill has been rested.
“He has had a really big pre-season, and we’re really mindful that he’s broken down a couple of times over the last few years and we don’t want to keep pushing him so much that he actually falls over again, we can't afford that luxury,” McMillan said.
Thought O’Neill has been good, especially with Mafileo (S) on other side.

@crucial they had the perfect opportunity to blood him off the bench in the two previous games so in this situation we are in now he would have a fair idea of the level required but nope no such forward thinking by the coaches.
Who is “him”? Leger?
He has played 10 at this level before. He does know what it’s like.Sorry was meaning Reuben Love they could have had him on the bench for this very situation

Nisbett calling this game. Probably means TJ tomorrow 😀

Should be an even contest , but it’s definitely a case of dance of the desperate’s about it ..
