@chris it’s frustrating as a supporter seeing two mediocre players get picked time and time again. Nothings going to change until they do a complete clean out of the organisation.
It’s funny that whenever I advocate the same you don your armour and mount your steed to defend them because I’m coming from a Magpies focus. 🤣

@gt12 100% agree and it’s the reason we lost control of the match last week. Once Scrafton got injured and we were suddenly left with Prinsep and Blackwell at lock shows we have really issues in that department. Pathetic really considering there are plenty of players out there we could have signed that would have done a shit tone better.

I just watched who Taylor ran between when he made his break leading to a try

@nepia it shouldn’t matter about province though, I don’t give two shits where a player comes from. If he’s good enough to wear the jersey then he should be selected.
The reason the Crusaders are so good is they scout the whole country for talent and pick accordingly.
The Canes need to look outside the region, identify areas where they need to improve (obvious example being the tight five) and develop players from there. Whether they are from HB, Wellington, Ta$man, Otago - if the player fits then so be it.
Blackwell is a Wellington player and I’m 100% agreeing that he should be no where near this level.
Just sucks that our coaches are pathetic and can’t spot the difference between an NPC level player and a Super Rugby player.

I liked their away kit. Esp compared to the horror last year
And Campbell looked good enough. As did Rayasi. I think its a bye next week and then the Chiefs. So they might have a chance for a win
But fro what Ive seen so far I still think Blues and Crusaders will fight it out for the top dog spot, then Highlanders and the Chiefs and Canes for the bottom spot. Unless the coaches start selecting the best players in the forwards. Then the team might have a chance at finishing third

I reckon O'Keeffe might have passed Williams for the best ref in NZ. Another excellent game from my viewing.
I thought the reffing was v. good

Codie Taylor was superb in this game. For the 2nd week in a row, he's shown he's still the top dog among hookers in NZ. I hope he can continue on this level. He's so much better now than last year.
Also a great game from Sam Whitelock. Leicester Fainga'anuku looking very strong; so hard to tackle! I'm starting to see what Razor sees in McLeod. Good to give him game time to allow him to grow. That's great coaching, the Hurricanes coaches could learn something from that. Also would like to mention Tom Christie. Until now I was on the fence about him, but I think he's underrated; he puts in a lot of work. Topped the tackle stats today with 15 tackles made and 2 missed. Mo'unga strong on game management as always and Reece was great, too. Some nice kicking from him!
I agree with other comments about Flanders. He looks so strong this year and is hard to stop. Move Ardie back to 7 and start Devan at 8. I like Kirifi, but he has a bit of a dip and deserves to be benched. Flanders offers more and they won't bench Ardie as he's the captain. Didn't really see stand-outs in the Canes squad. Lomax started well in the first 20 or so, but then disappeared. Jordie probably the best of the lot, but also inconsistent. Several players completely invisible; time to give Visinia a run instead of Goosen (because they won't put the bus in the garage). Give Proctor's jersey to someone else, preferably Toala .
Some injury worries. Unfortunate headknock for Blackadder; Goodhue must have a hard head; he didn't even flinch after that headclash. Also Aumua. That arm didn't look good. Good that the Canes have the bye; hopefully Coles will be back for round 4.

Yeah I think you are right some strange selections and recruitment at the Canes recently.
The Crusaders have put a lot of work into their academies and are signing players straight out of them
Newell,Williams,Punivai Isi,Fhiyaki and Darry For the Blues they have some serious talent to pick from next year.
If I Was recruiting for another SR team I would be raiding the Crusaders Academies.
Finlay Brewis Prop,Zach Gallagher Lock/no6,Luke Donaldson Hb,Campbell Parata First five,Taine Robinson FB/mf,Timoci Tavatavanawai wing,Will Tucker lock, all good talent.
Will be in SR next season somewhere I would think. -
@stargazer I go along with Flanders getting on at 8, but not sure what we do at 6, Prinsep to me is a good journeyman mitre 10 cup player and not a lot more. If I had to pick I would try and work Kirifi in just because he is from the region. I not into us using journeyman from outside!

Thats a surprise. But I would like to see him at 6. To replace Prinsep who was poor. Unless say Fifita starts at 6
-
Laumape needs to go and play league. His whole match summed up at the end, where the Hurricane replacement wing sets Laumape free with a 2 on 1. Instead of draw and pass...he cuts back infield...to take contact. As poor as he was, Dallas McLeod had a more than decent game.
Lineout: The player throwing in the ball stands on the mark of touch with both feet outside the field of play. The thrower must not step into the field of play until the ball has been thrown.
Field of play: The area between the goal lines and the touch lines. Those lines are not part of the field of play.
Are we saying that heels touching the touchline means the player is outside the field of play, and therefore the lineout is OK?

I know it is affected by the YC, but one key issue - that can be addressed - was a lack of balance in the loosies and Ardie not being as effective at 8. Ardie made all of 5 tackles today and was OK with the ball (he got 23 metres and beat three defenders) but got no help. Prinsep made 11 tackles and ran for 2 metres - that’s not enough from a 6 at this level and in his short stint Flanders was busy on both sides of the ball.
I know this won’t make them a team to be feared (the front five are the problem there) but if they can get the loosie balance right, they may be able to make up for it. IWL had a quiet game, they’ll need heaps from him to improve. I’d even be tempted to put Fifita at lock with him or Fifita off the bench if they must start Blackwell. If they bring Coles back and have healthy props and Aumua back, they’ll beat the Chiefs and give the Landers a good go.
-
Shambolic 2nd quarter from the Hurricanes. Played okay in the other three, but lack the players to be competitive against top teams this year. The problem has been the recruitment policy for the past five or six years, not enough ambition or forward-thinking. Ardie must play 7, Flanders should start. But the real problem is the roster.
Congratulations to the Crusaders, again. I thought Mo'unga controlled the game well.

Ardie ran 50-60m down the field in one of his runs. Does that mean he had a sh*tload of carries that made negative metres to bring it back to 23m?

Blackadder was really good. Like Tom Robinson, I wonder the way he plays makes it inevitable he'll get injured at some stage. Cullen Grace, Christie, and Blackadder are going to be a formidable force in the years to come. But did you see Grace run into Ardie and Ardie gave him a bit of a rough up? The old bull just saying, "don't get ahead of yourself young fella".
Can't wait for the Crusaders vs Blues match. The clash of the loosies will be fascinating. -
