The fern (and public) view of Akira is mind-boggling. Sure he had some games where he looked lazy two years ago, maybe a year ago. But to say he wasn't more than decent for the ABs last year (or this final) is bizarre.
I don't really see why he seems to irritate so many posters here beyond the bounds of personal preference.
Granted he might not be the best 6/8 in NZ as there are so many quality candidates, but his performance for the ABs, from what I saw he was one of the most dynamic and intimidating forwards (with special commendation to Sam Cane who added to his great defending with some real go forward and useful running).
I guess some pundits don't like Akira's hairdresser...Aye? He's been the most hyped up player on the Fern in recent years. His bandwagon here is packed.
If you have tiniest of criticism of Akira on the Fern, you're facing the guillotine. Some people are super sentive if you don't agree with them at the worst of times, but if it's about Akira, you get a bloody Fern meltdown.
The lack of self awareness of this post is extraordinary.

@kiwimurph Except Kelleher got to the rucks quickly. Christie is slow. Just wondering what his strong point is?
I think they watched this on repeat

He's the anti-Frizell in the sense he's played well at Test level, and Shannon hasn't.

Also opposite in the sense that Akira has been given 1 and a quarter test starts - and Frizell has 12 test starts.

Astonishing talent.
I stand by that. He was fucking good. Just saw a replay of the 2004 3N. Pity

Looking at that squad, I’d say Tim is one of the selectors. All his favourites are there, even Shannon Frizzell!
To be fair, at various times Tim's pretty much done a Mad King Aerys on everyone - "Drop them all!!!"
I'm not sure he'd be able to field a team of professional rugby players if he was a selector and unable to pick anyone he'd recommended must go!

@tim Does Hall ever talk about his own continued omission in these pod casts?
I've never heard him bring it up yet (although I haven't listened to the pod this week yet). I think he knows his time has past (for better or worse) and seems pretty into the Maori team.
-
@crazy-horse At least TJ, Nisbo and Marshy would be able to commentate - unless he'd spent his fat selectors salary on Sky shares!

It was easy to be anti Frizell when he was selected for the ABs off the Highlanders bench in a year that Akira won pretty much every Blues player award going and didn’t get a look in from Hansen.
Frizzell eventually started looking the goods for the Highlanders, but jury still out whether he’s got that next level in him.
-
@nepia never said his performances in the black jersey we'rent lacking, although i still think he done better than the fail mark a lot seem to give him, have made it quite clear Akira proved last year he deserves a run of games to see if he can make it is own
was just meaning it seems like Akria gets a lot of support because people are so anti frizell and they need to make it quite clear who is better than him
-
@kiwimurph you'd think (hope) the likes of Taylor and Smith will have relatively light workloads in this series

This kind of thing is almost up there with FDS though. Who is saying that?
