@Nepia but as also noted in the thread, they seem to use Frizell differently, he isnt stationed wide like Akira was, so unless they decide to use him like that this week, isnt a direct comparison.
But that wasn't the stuff I was commenting that he'd need to show he'd do the same - doesn't matter where they're standing on the field they should be hitting people and rucks hard.
Maybe you could go back and watch the first 3 games without an eye patch? Frizzel definitely hits a lot of breakdowns... maybe not as noticeable because he's not standing to the side of the ruck with one hand on it...
If you’d actually read my posts about Frizzell earlier this year you’d have noted that I said I wanted him to get back to his form from before he got injured last year, when he was actually looking like the guy he was hyped to be when coming out of nowhere from the Highlanders bench.
And if you’d read my posts in this thread I even said he was busy.
Not sure who you’re referring to with one hand on the ruck in this context.

To me what Frizell brings is really high number of involvements, great athleticism (in a useful way not a Fifita way) and terrific aerial skills (restarts and lineout).
What Akira brings is a lot of strength/power (ball running, breakdowns, tackling) whilst also being very quick and useful in the lineout himself.
It's shaping as an interesting battle.
I’d like it to be an actual battle but only one of the combatants is actually getting any decent time on the battlefield.

he was hyped
Say what? Chris B doesn't count.
Aside from @Chris-B I was meaning by the AB coaches who somehow found him eating an orange on the Highlanders bench, had a convo in Tongan with him and then anointed him our new Kaino. 😏
-
Interestingly the Japanese commentators were going on about the first Japan-born person to play for the All Blacks last Saturday.
-
I really don't get why Akira/Frizell is is making heads explode, I am happy for the depth. When you think historically how long the likes of Zinny, Kaino or Buck had to wait its a nonissue for Akira to wait. The rate of attrition in test rugby is so high, having 5 class loose forwards is not a problem.

@KiwiMurph yeah I think the battle is probably more between Sotutu and Aoane, than Frizzel.
Foster seems wedded to Cane/Savea/Other, which puts all three against each other.
My personal view is that, whilst working fine against the lighter packs, is unbalanced against a Pom or Bok unit.
Early days but I’m drawn towards a Cane/Sotutu/[Frizell/Aoane] combo, with Savea on bench.
Seems like Akira will get a run in Puma 2.
Oh nooooooooooo, not those Boks and Poms again
I'm guessing for the next four years that will be the new "sky is falling". What about the Boks and Poms!
-
@Old-Samurai-Jack hah, I didn't know that. Bright Ioane!
-
@Old-Samurai-Jack I've been saying Frizzell was good but I thought Akira was very effectively disruptive and not just that much quicker he seemed to have a better rugby brain in terms of knowing just where to place himself. Then again he might have gone off the boil if he stayed on any longer-who knows?

Argentina team: 1. Tetaz, 2. Julian Montoya, 3. Francisco Gómez-Kodela, 4. Guido Petti, 5. Matias Alemanno, 6. Pablo Matera (C), 7. Marcos Kremer, 8. Rodrigo Bruni, 9. Tomas Cubelli, 10. Nicolas Sánchez, 11. Juan Imhoff, 12. Santiago Chocobares*, 13. Matias Orlando, 14. Bautista Delguy, 15. Santiago Carreras.
Reserves: 16. Facundo Bosch, 17. Mayco Vivas, 18. Santiago Medrano, 19. Santiago Grondona*, 20. Tomas Lezana, 21. Gonzalo Bertranou, 22. Lucio Cinti*, 23. Santiago Cordero.
They really have someone called Chocobares????
-
Should also keep in mind they've got Chieka as an assistant. So put that in the negative column for them.
-
i'll say it again because it annoys me its not happening
I'm a big frizell fan, i think he deserves to be the incumbent-ish...but Akira sowed enough in his short run to be given another shot against the argies, i would have given cane a rest, played savea at 7, started Sotutu and Akira, with Frizell as loosie/lock cover on the bench
the worrying sign for me is the coaches dont seem to have the ability to change things up like the team didn't on the weekend, this selection just stinks of being decided a few weeks ago and not revisited even after the weekend

Or they are revisiting the plans with the mindset of looking for reasons not to change them rather than taking in the current situation with a clean slate.

Chocobares is on debut
https://www.reuters.com/article/rugby-union-championship-nzl-arg/update-1-rugby-centre-chocobares-to-make-pumas-debut-against-all-blacks-idUKL1N2HY04AAny Argentinians here? I wonder if his name means either
S. American: Pub (Bar) of the Choco (Columbian) people, or
Spanish: Crash Bar..which would still be rather delightful for a solid midfielder.

which would still be rather delightful for a solid midfielder.See I just thought of these sorts of things:
I deliberately left out Hershey's Choco bars as we all know which road (highway if you like) that will descend to.
TBF he does look more solid, or muscular rather than fat.
Going to be interesting to see if we do our usual bounce back after a loss. We do have a better team out there this week too.

Wish I was an announcer "And on debut, in the midfield, at 1.88m 91kg, a golden slab of a man with a high-calorie game.."
