Bledisloe Two: Auckland, October 18

Jordie Barrett is not a long term 14 but there is/was the opportunity to play Will Jordan there.
Jordie Barrett is the form 15 in Super rugby, is experienced there, and is not played there.
Ardie Savea is not the long term 8 solution but he's played there.
Sotutu may well be the answer at 8 and he is not played there.
Shannon Frizell has not performed at anything more than passable levels for the ABs in all his outings and he is retained.
Akira Ioane has far more physicality and could be tried but he is not played.
Richie Mounga and Beauden Barrett should be dueling for the 10 with one on the bench.
Caleb Clarke wasn't even selected and then he tore it up and as soon as he came on. -

Because over the last 15 years we have looked most balanced in the backs when we have had a āpowerā 11 and a āfullback hybridā 14 to counter the aerial bombardment
which completely derailed us in 2008/2009.Early on Sivi/Roks paired best with Howlett at 14. It never really worked with them both there.
Then Jane came along to fill the fullback/wing role with Savea eventually locking in the 11 jersey after guys like Gear never really stepped up and Guildford didnāt work.
After jane we had Smith and Dagg alternating paired with Savea and then NMS alternating with Dagg until they both dropped away.
Then Ioane taking the left wing role and Smith the right until Hansen shat the bed last year and decided Bridge was a power winger and a midget wife beater provided the best balance with him.We are lacking balance all through our team at the moment and IMO itās one of our biggest problems.

I think it depends on the style of Fullback they are ,
Corey Jane , Ben Smith , NMS and Dagg to a lesser degree are fullbacks at super rugby level that played bloody well in the black 14 jersey ,
Im not so sure Jordie fits the mold as much though as to the type that is suited ,not quite the dasher , Jordan looks like he might though IMO

I don't really buy that there is a need for two different style wings. If you have one who is good in the air, what does that matter if the opposition can just kick to the other one? It's not like one wing can cover the others weaknesses, they are nowhere near each other. Better bet to pick two wings whose style suits our gameplan.
Gotta have a gameplan first of course. -
@pukunui I get that and I understand that selection pattern. But we seem to complain about a lack of speed and wingers getting bundled into touch because they are not pure wingers and wonder why. I think possibly we have taken the versatility thing too far. Maybe in our subs but otherwise letās have specialists.

Our last world cup winning right winger was a midget with good feet. The one before that was a midget who happened to catch bombs well. Both could create opportunities from nothing with other attacking attributes (feet or fend)
This whole thing is because we used to stash Ben Smith on the wing when something shiny (but not as good) came along. It was just lucky he was fucking dynamite there as well. He also could create for himself.

Gotta have a gameplan first of course.Our game plan appears to be "not have the ball, hope they make a mistake" , so having 3 fullbacks would be the sensible option.

Bender whilst touted as a journeyman by some early on (not me!) really elevated his game to someone we could rely upon to get most things right, but also for a spark. Those types unfortunately donāt fall off trees.
That season (half?) playing at centre for the ABs was a mixed bag.

End of the day you look at whatās available and pick your strongest team

Everything about what is wrong with this team again has been said already.
All I'll add to the conversation is that I still haven't got my head around Foster being promoted to head coach on the back of absolutely nothing. He has no body of work that even hints he knows what he is doing. What the hell were they thinking?
