Maybe so but don’t alienate your fans by telling them they are basically ignorant, not a way to get the fans behind you.

Part of the problem is the timing of the Cane/Burke comments - when the team has played really badly and lost (in Burke's case it was a bunch of times for the Tahs).
So it reads as an attempt to discredit criticism that is often pretty valid. The ABs did play pretty badly, it doesn't take a 50 test veteran to see that.
I agree with your general premise that Joe Public is never as smart as he thinks he is on rugby matters, but mentioning that fact in a week where you've been belted by Argentina isn't the most productive way to have that discussion IMO.

All of what you say is true, but I don't believe Sam's referring to the "we played poorly and Argies deserved the win" commentary. As I mentioned to @Chris , someone should be advising them about reading toxic messages.

@antipodean didnt he say in there he had a self imposed ban on reading the media? I assume that would include social media...we know Laumape reads it though.

It’s absolutely true but doesn’t need to be and shouldn’t be said. Not only is it very condescending (and probably alienating) it smacks of defensiveness, hypersensitivity and - crucially - a belief that nothing can be learned from outside the bubble / echo chamber. This last part is particularly concerning given that the bubble has produced next to nothing to address successfully the very apparent issues the team has has for the last 3 years.

More Cane may lose Fans,or enforce the thinking from people who don’t believe he should be Captain,certainly won’t help the present situation coming out with the remarks he made.
Unnecessary comments IMO just get on with doing your job and doing it better is my message back to Sam Cane. -

Listening to Devlin on ZB while in the garden.
Mentioned at the end of show today he's got Fostter on tomorrow.Not sure what time but expect first up at 12.00.
Not sure if doing talk back but he has been on previously. Suspect not in this case.
Regardless, should be worth a listen.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed elsewhere. The main points:
- Martin Devlin did not ask any questions about Foster's future as All Blacks coach.
- Foster says we need to attack more through our set piece.
- Did not really answer why players could not change tactics last week. He felt we did learn in the second half.
- We weren't able to change how we dealt with the pressure. 3 dumb penalties killed us.
- Team has worked hard on improving physicality. Good results with speed of the ball. Feels the desire to get more combative as transferred into niggle.
- Thinks that players are getting away with too much provocation.
- Is pragmatic that we may need to kick more penalty goals to win games. Felt Australia turned down too many shots at goal last night.
- Wants to give opportunities to players. Doesn't really give anything away as to what team he will pick for Saturday.
- Media and fans can pull team back into something they have mentally moved on from as a playing group.
- Supports Cane 100% and does not believe he needs to talk to him about his public comments. His captain can say what he wants but didn't really agree with the comments. States Cane didn't really believe what he said either.
