The Wallabies should be quite scared. They beat the ABs, but now have to face a decent Argentinian side..
-
Let's be honest about the last five years. A drawn series against the Lions. We followed that up by losing to Ireland. Then an insipid performance in a RWC semifinal. Now we've lost to fucking Argentina.
What's the common denominator?
-
Foster? He was part of the winning 2015 RWC team but I never knew exactly what he did..
-
I think the method that worked well when Ted retired, handing the reins to shag , the assistant, had to backfire eventually if they kept using that as the blueprint , it’s not rocket science that the assistant may not necessarily be the best candidate.
Here we are potentially looking at it failing next time they tried it .

Sack Foster now.
He should be fired tomorrow. Plumtree can look after the team for the final hame of the season.

Forget the How is Fozzie going question, what is being said over at NZR HQ?

They left their tiny brains behind when they appointed Foster in the first place. A nice man, but clearly never up to the task of leading the ABs through an era of sustained success.

I think NZ rugby took the wrong lessons out of Henry and winning in 2011 after not being sacked in 2007.
Experience only counts if you’re good enough. The argument that we won in 2011 because of not sacking Henry in 2007 didn’t prove that you must have experience, it just proved that if you’ve got the right coach - keep them.
I’ve never been particularly convinced that Grizz would have won in 95, Hart in 03, or Mitchell in 07 just by being retained. 50/50 on Laurie in 1999 maybe.
Unfortunately the NZRU is conservative enough without learning that lesson incorrectly, and the experience lesson has now landed us with Foster instead of Robertson, Rennie, Cotter, or any of the other names who would also be better.
-
Well said Donsteppa. Although perhaps it was good we avoided Gatland.
Edit: actually as soon as I wrote the above I thought, even Gatland would not be this bad. -

What should be remembered when analysing the Hansen era and looking at the “assistant taking the reins” option is that Hansen inherited a pretty settled team with a core of exceptional players, most of whom had a good few years of shelf life left.
-
Foster inherited a team on the slide who seem to have mental problems when under pressure and a set of outdated tactics which other teams have sussed.
My big worry is that Foster is probably an OK continuity coach but isn't a coach who can turn a team around

There’s a bloke around who could do that I think. Done it before.
Dances a bit too.

Pathetic. There is now way he can come back from this. Not sure what the options are at this point. Even if next season returns to a semi-normal schedule you pretty much have to fire him before the EOYT because you can't send a dead man walking off without an extension.

The faith of the players must already be slipping

Very hard to preach a 'high performance environment' when everyone knows they've been coached by at least a couple of better minds at lower levels.

Was this a Mark Robinson hire? Feels like something he would do....

He was on the panel.

Robinson was on the panel, but Tew set up the process which ran off Rennie and Joseph - so I think ultimately you have to say Tew was the one who put his thumb on the scales for Foster. The general sense was Hansen/Tew always wanted Foster irregardless of ability, results or other candidates.
Ted was on the panel too and said he wanted Rennie, but that wasn't an option to him.
I'm not sure Razor was the right answer either, but if we need him as a "break glass in case of emergency" candidate for a two year run like Rassie or Cheika there are worse candidates.
