Hurricanes 2021

@Canes4life Chiefs replied to my comment on FB and said it wasn't being televised.

Hard to believe any of those named as "key gains" will actually make the match day 23 (other than in an injury crises) let alone start a match.

@Higgins Ben Strang is a hooker and Kyle Stewart a loosehead prop. Both from Manawatu.
Obviously, Manawatu ranks higher than Hawke's Bay, because otherwise they'd have picked Jason Long/Patrick Teddy and Kianu Kereru-Symes/Jacob Devery, although I'm still hoping Kianu will be named in one of the Blues' squads.
Missed the reserve HB prop J Hintz making the bench for both games, but then again he is originally from Wellington so I suppose that counts in his favour!
-
@Canes4life What would you classify as a "key gain" then?

Underwhelming is being polite about it

You have to feel for McClutchie in this article bringing in Orbyn as injury cover when he’s not a 10, the management seem like they don’t have a clue if we can all see it how can they not.
We can all see it. This applies to Blackwell (a Wellington player) starting week after week. But isn't McClutchie a bit on the fragile or small side for super rugby. He just looks like a NPC level player that would struggle to step up week after week if required. And that what a team needs.

You've just described Simon Hickey - who they signed.

I thought Leger was added as midfield cover. The f@ct that he covers 10 adequately is a bonus.

Agree. And he's already injured. But Hickey looks much stronger than McClutchie. And maybe he was brought in for his experience and as a good fun team man who can start if required. With the longer term option seen as Love
-
And here's an old article on Roigard. Hard to really access three players over two weeks. But will see if he is really an option soon. It doesn't reflect too well though on the other 2 contenders that a three option is being considered

But isn’t that why Ray Nu’a was added for the pre season to cover midfield?

He’s 5kgs lighter then Love and 1 mm taller I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard for him to bulk on 10 kgs if that was the issue.

The press release from CM had him joining as a midfielder and I seem to recall the same from the Canes.
Might even be further back in this thread -

@mikey07 lol where are you getting those stats from? Love is 90kg, 1.83cm and McClutchie is 1.74cm 85kg.
1.83 and 1.78cm? Haha, classic mistake! That would make them smaller than 2cm! Replace the cm with m and you're correct, although those numbers from McClutchie are old, so he may be a bit heavier now.
Even if correct, then he's only 2cm smaller and 2kg heavier than Mo'unga, who's an outstanding 10, so McClutchie is definitely not too small or fragile for Super Rugby as someone suggested earlier in the thread.
Oh, and Simon Hickey is also 174cm, and 83kg.

@Stargazer haha oops.
I think Lincoln has the goods to be a Super level first five and I prefer him to someone like Orbyn.
Hopefully he can find a little more consistency in his game during this year’s Mitre 10 Cup to force selection into one of the five NZ conferences.
