Hurricanes 2021

@Canes4life You seem to have forgotten that a lot of those players around him at Mitre 10 Cup level for Wellington are also Hurricanes. Are you finally conceding that those said Wellington players are not "better players"?

At 19 Love already looks like a strong prospect. He was one of the shining lights for Wellington this year. Sound on attack, fearless on defence even playing at 15 and seems to be one of those players that pops up at the right moments.
Can’t wait to see how he goes with better players around him.
You could have said the exact same things about McClutchie when he was 19 ... except he came from the wrong province for you to see how he goes with better players around him.
Hmmm, i can’t decide whether the Canes or the Warriors annoy me more at the moment.

@Higgins lol all the decent Lions so called Hurricanes players were with the All Blacks throughout the majority of the Mitre 10 Cup. He hasn't played with them yet. He's only played with the average Canes players like Blackwell and J Garden-Bachop who I've already said aren't upto it so I don't really see your point.
-
@Nepia this is pretty funny. Hawkes Bay don't even think he's good enough to start in the 10 jersey, what makes you think McClutchie is good enough for a Super contract. He hasn't set the house on fire so far...
Why do the Canes annoy you?

He thinks that if Love played for Hawkes Bay, he wouldn't have got a contract. I think there is something to that, although it isn't that simple.
Regardless, if you think Love is going to be a massive talent then you have to sign him up. You have to lock a generational talent because someone else will take him. Players in New Zealand don't move around much once they are an established Super Rugby player. The challenge is to actually get it right and identify the right players. Love does take someone else's spot who could be that generational talent.

@Canes4life Thank you for clarifying who the decent Wellington players that are in the Hurricanes are. Alongside the aforementioned J Blackwell and J Garden-Bachop that leaves V Aso, B Proctor, X Numia, V Fifita, W Goosen and A Fidow also rated in the not decent player category. Also rating honourable mentions must be the Lions Chiefs player N Ah Khoi and Lions Highlanders Player T Ben-Nicholas. Think F Armstrong has also signed for the Lions next season so will chuck him in there for free. C Garden-Bachop does not rate a mention as he did not play.
-
@Canes4life Your comment was that the players he has been playing alongside are not rated by you as implied by your comment "Can’t wait to see how he goes with better players around him."

No my comment was 'I can't wait to see how he goes with better players around him'. You're just trying to manipulate what I said to suit your argument / turn it into a Wellington vs Hawkes Bay debate again. Boorring.

Nor did Armstrong. And Id be over the moon if HB produced a good (not average) super rugby player and he signed for the Canes
But Aso was average this year (and he was signed initially from Ak). Proctor likewise. And of the ones you mentioned none were certain starters for the Canes this year. Blackwell seemed to be but hardly anyone apart from the coaches rate him -

@ARHS He must be a long-term project though, because he's no where near SR quality, yet.
Hes 19. give him time.
Well that’s the fucking point, why’s he getting selected if he needs time?
Because if the Canes don't sign him another team will.
Why would another team sign him if he needs time?
So professional rugby started in the mid 90s, it's a thing.

He set the house of fire as much as Love did at the same age.
As for why the Canes annoy me, have a read of your response to @Higgins

@hydro11 yeah but you don't see me harping on about Wellington player Teariki Ben Nicholas losing out to Hawke's Bays Devan Flanders. Province only plays a small part in signings, the players still have to perform..
Of course you wouldn't, your province always has the bulk of the spots in the Canes. A few years ago the Magpies had nearly 15 Super players, and only 3 of them were in their home franchise the Canes (and one of them was probably Ben May).

Brandon Iose signed contract with hurricanes
-
@Nepia it's because we are the big brother province in the Hurricanes. It's the same case with the likes of Northland/North Harbour with Auckland or Counties/BOP with Waikato. The bigger provinces are always going to get more players in their franchises.
Funny how you don't mention last year when there was a good representation of HB players in the Canes - May, Walker-Leawere, Rakete-Stones, Flanders, Evans, Lowe and Toala.
-
@mikey07 he's a good solid player. I wonder if they've signed him as an 8 or 7.. Probably similar to the Ardie Savea mould, not the biggest at 8 but he's powerful and has a high skillset.
Hopefully he's taken Taramais spot.
So that's our loose forwards sorted for next year. Not much size looking at the list, the Canes are obviously looking to play up tempo next year.
- Gareth Evans
- Ardie Savea
- Devan Flanders
- Du Plessis Kirifi
- Brayden Iose
- Vaea Fifita
- Reed Prinsep

@mikey07 Iose hasn't played much over the last few years because of injury, so I've not seen much of him in recent games. He looked promising when I saw him play, but not Flanders-like promising, if you get what I mean. I wonder whether he replaces Taramai? I think I saw on instagram that he's on the move (MLR??). I may be wrong about that though.
