All Black Coach - Ian Foster

I think we're griping about the process because Foster got appointed. If Joseph, Rennie and Gatland had stuck through to the interview and one of them got selected, we'd be lauding NZR to the heavens.
Maybe. If so may hadn’t dropped out or had even applied in the first place it would feel less like it was already decided.

Agreed. Rennie and Joseph went for the sure thing. Gatland is already committed with the B&IL.

So why are the new CEO Robinson and panelist Henry also criticising the process?

I cannot see how the process could have been greatly different to how this played out, particularly in a RWC year.
Sure people thought it was a done deal, but by not even applying, Rennie and JJ left it down to 2: once it was Fozzie and his rumoured team vs Razor and his rumoured team, IMO there was only one choice at this point in time.

Because nobody outside NZ applied so it was obviously a bad process?

Honestly, I think the problem is that we have to have an application process, rather than an appointment process.
I doubt that the public would be happy with the fish heads deciding who should be the coach, and them chasing that person (and their assistants).
Without that sort of procedure in place however, we may not get the applicants we want.
Personally I think that is the way to go - but that puts the CEO and board under pressure to get the right people, and then they should pay if it goes tits up.

100%. At the Blues, extending Lam's contract for 2 years, then sacking him after one should (in my simple mind) lead to some real consequences for the Board that appointed him.

People weren’t applying because they heard it was a done deal. So the process was perceived to be a sham.

Can’t remember a more uninspiring appointment. If there is not a winning start, watch out. The saving grace might be the assistant coaches. Really think the ABs needed a fresh start not a continuation regime.

Whats the view here on what the NZRU is doing with Brad Mooar. They seem to be very keen to get him and to want him to break his contract. After letting him go from NZ rugby.
But surely from his viewpoint 2 more years at the Scarlets as head coach would look a lot better on his CV. Esp if he sees his future as a head coach maybe for an international side.

No issue with it. Ultimately these things are guided by whatever Mooar wants. If his preference is to come back to NZ then there is no point Scarlets blocking it and continuing with him - especially for two seasons.
The NZRU has earned the benefit of the doubt on this one. They have been reasonable historically with early releases with players and coaches where it has made sense. They may well return the favour and release and NZRU contracted coach early as his replacement.

So they appointed Foster without him having his full team of assistants nailed home. They should do the right thing and reopen the whole process to ensure they are making the appointment with 100% certainty who the entire coaching team is before making the appointment official.

Funny how when they re-appointed GH, it apparently had a lot to do with the powerful team he put together, compared with the Robbie Deans team. Clearly different time different rules....

I suspect Mooar is "torn" for as long as the negotiations continue. Am fully convinced (based on nothing) his preferred option is the And.
While there's still a chance he can't get out of the Scarlets' job he has to maintain some appearance of being keen to stay.

Yeah that'll help.

FFS I didn't realise he hasn't even actually agreed to it yet. I just thought it was subject to money. Razor should have named Tony brown as his assistant, subject to negotiations. Fuck it, Wayne Smith too!
Utter toss
As above, would venture to suggest he's agreed to it and it is just subject to money.

Also, GH was a very very good coach. Strong track record, put a good team on the paddock with a track record of success (and dominance) - we were well ahead of every other nation in 07 in my opinion. Got undone by mental weakness, combined with a very good french side and a ref that swallows his whistle. The team he assembed was a contributing factor, but GH's capability was a massive contribution to that as well.
I think they got the call spot on.

From Wales online re: Mooar-
The Scarlets have started the search for a new coach after becoming resigned to losing Brad Mooar to the All Blacks. It seems to be a question of not if but when he will depart, with talks taking place with New Zealand Rugby over a compensation package.
Sources Down Under say the Kiwis are prepared to stump up money for Mooar to become part of new All Blacks head coach Ian Foster’s back-room staff.
Mooar is just six months into a three-year deal with the Scarlets and it’s believed they have put a price tag of around the £200,000 mark on his head to grant an early release.
However, power-brokers concede there’s no point attempting to hold on to the 45-year-old if he’s intent on accepting what may be a once in a lifetime approach to become a coach with the All Blacks.
It’s a strategy they adopted five years ago when Ireland moved to prise Scarlets great Simon Easterby away from the Llanelli-based region.
he Irish Rugby Football Union duly coughed up cash with the Scarlets promoting Wayne Pivac, who was due to join them as forwards guru, to head honcho.Pivac’s departure at the end of last season to succeed Warren Gatland as Wales boss resulted in the recruitment of Mooar, who was an assistant to Scott Robertson at the Crusaders as the Christchurch-based Super Rugby franchise won three consecutive titles.
The Scarlets could again promote from within and look to defence chief Glenn Delaney a respected figure in his native New Zealand following stints as an assistant with the Highlanders Super Rugby team and as head man with provincial side Canterbury, who he guided to a Mitre 10 Cup title.
Delaney was previously lead coach of English sides London Irish and Nottingham. He replaced then Wales-bound Byron Hayward as defence coach of the Scarlets during the summer recess. However, WalesOnline understands the Scarlets will consider other applications and have already put out feelers to gauge interest.
The dilemma they face is when Mooar should leave, assuming a deal is struck with New Zealand Rugby.
Do they attempt or want to kept him until the end of the campaign or release him early and perhaps install Delaney on a caretaker basis?
The other question they face is when the All Blacks will want Mooar to start work?Their opening fixture under the command of Foster, whose appointment hasn’t gone done well with a large proportion of the Kiwi public, is against Wales in Auckland on July 4 next year.
The Guinness PRO14 final takes place in Cardiff on June 20 – the same day as the Super Rugby final – and that could figure in the thinking of the three parties: Mooar, Scarlets and New Zealand Rugby.
Mooar could, if Foster allows, scrutinise the performances of potential All Blacks players from Wales, as Australia’s new coach Dave Rennie intends doing with the Wallabies as he sees out his contract to the end of the season with Glasgow Warriors.
