So what do New Zealand fans reckon will be the margin against the whinging, piston wristed gibbon Paddies?
25-30?
I doubt it . The days of those sort of winning margins against Ireland are gone imho
1 point win I'm happy, a more comfortable win will be better for our collective blood pressures...

Now that it’s here , have a nervous excitement to see how we play this tactically,
I think it’s fair to say we know what we are getting from Ireland, unless they are holding something back , but you would think they will go back to the stuff that has troubled us recently, why would you change that .
But we have tweaked our set up to counter the likes of them , and now we get to see how it works .

Not an ambush, but we played really poorly. We weren't allowed to play well, but we really didn't cope with the rush defence, and our forwards were really really passive.
BBBR needs a huge game as the last time he played Ireland was the worst I've seen him play for the ABs.

TAB odds are clearcut for all the QFs.

If you believe these; South Africa, New Zealand, England and Wales will all win comfortably.
I'd bet against that happening - though, I reckon the Jaapies will be comfortably too good for Japan.

Discipline is crucial. We can't be giving away the silly penalties that we gave away in Dublin.
Whitelock and Brodie were the two biggest offenders that night. They both need huge games against Ryan and Henderson who are both world class.Long periods defending concerns me most, that is where we are most likely to concede penalties and or cards , and not rocket science to think this what Ireland will try to do .... again

Nothing to worry about. Ireland are the most predictable team in the tournament.
Sexton kicks ball. Toner alternative catches. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Pass. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Loop. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Ruck. Ruck. Ruck. Ruck. Ruck.
Try. Restart.
Sometimes there’s a kick in there.
Should be a doddle.

Yep. New Zealand 1/5 Ireland 5/1.

Madness!
Good for an insurance bet though!

i was honestly about to post almost exactly this!
But, just like one D Pocock, it may be one trick, but they are fucking good at it. And, that exact game plan is the best way to beat us. They just need to do it better than they have done all year. And i for one think they will be all over it this week, it's a huge game for Irish rugby.
And, to that point, do we do a Cheika, ignore their tactics, and just pick the side to play our way the best? Or do we pick back 3 guys who can take high balls?
Knockout rugby is an absolute fluffybunny, and therefore my anxiety about this game will build during the week, despite my earlier blase ambivalence
-
@mariner4life I think they have shown the preferred back 3; Bridge, BB, Reece (maybe swap Reece for BFA?)
I think the team almost picks itself, think they have been showing us thier intentions, only real point of contention is 12/13...

Hansen knows this Irish team very well now.
Last year in Dublin New Zealand were at the end of a hard season and had a tough game against the English.
They will be fresh and well prep'd. I can see them sucking the Irish in the centre of the park, forcing them to commit players to the ruck, then hitting them out wide. I hope I'm wrong, obviously, but I can see a pretty big scoreline for the AB's.
You may be new to the Fern but you've obviously played this underdog game before, and I won't let this continue. Ireland are odds on favourites, theirs to lose. Would be very surprised if the ABs got up.

That's always the concern when playing Ireland. They average something like 200 rucks a game which often leads to the defending team infringing. Not too dissimilar to the Brumbies in the late 90s.
How the ruck is refereed will be important. Refs at this WC are allowing the attacking teams to not release the ball and pilferring stats have been way down as a result. This will obviously favour Ireland's game plan which is based on ball retention.
Cards also will be a factor. Since we will probably be making a lot more tackles than them, it's crucial that we don't give the ref a reason to send someone to the bin.
-
@taniwharugby my only thought was BFA over Reece. But i wouldn't do it. I think we'll need the spark that boy seems to provide every game.
BFA or Pimply Giraffe on the bench?
SBW or Crotty at 12?
Patty T's power or Red Barrett's reliability?
-
@mariner4life yep to all those
-
dunno if mentioned, but just heard the Barretts grandfather died yesterday...was due to fly out to Japan this week.
