RWC: All Blacks v Ireland (QF2)

@taniwharugby If the Frogs somehow do get through to the final at least we will be spared having to watch the first two perform!

@chimoaus top for me based on limited viewing are
Barnes
Peyper
OwensPeyper/Owens there on past form; I haven't seen much of them to date
no idea on the 4th ref!
I reckon Gaüzère is the pick of the French refs. But not sure where he’s positioned in the pecking order.

You think last November was an ambush?
Not an ambush, but we played really poorly. We weren't allowed to play well, but we really didn't cope with the rush defence, and our forwards were really really passive.
This is what's so tasty though - has Hansen worked out a counter to the Irish rush and grinding style? Japan Wales and England have shown templates on how to beat them ... not we have to see if we can manage the same thing.
Ireland play smart rugby, but it's not inspiring and it's got all the elements of why people didn't like England back in the day. Low risk, percentage rugby, relying on grinding penalties and only chancing the arm under penalty advantage. Effective for some time, but from a neutral perspective not that exciting
Agreed. Not an ambush from the most predictable team in World Rugby in 2018. Low risk. Percentage rugby. Only chance arm of scoring try under penalty advantage. Not exciting. Not inspiring.
In short, the most unlikely team to ambush anyone. Not a chance of an ambush.

@ACT-Crusader behind Garces and Poite...
@Derm-McCrum TBH I do think Gardner has gone backwards the past couple of years, he used to be very good, but I think he is now afraid of making calls, based on WR throwing him under the bus with the RC v France a couple of years ago...that said, I'd still take him before those Frenchies!

So what do New Zealand fans reckon will be the margin against the whinging, piston wristed gibbon Paddies?
25-30?
I doubt it . The days of those sort of winning margins against Ireland are gone imho

We can talk horses for courses all we like. But at the end of the day it's only Japan, and Ireland got found out by them. Shame on us if we can't beat any or all 3
Last time we went head to head against Ireland dominated the ABs. This was less than twelve months ago.
Ireland have conceded one try all tournament. Outside of one 20 minute window against the Boks there is limited evidence from the past 12 months that the ABs have the ability to crack this a good rush defence if fit, firing and confident.
Yep. No doubt Ireland should be heavy favourites for this one

1 point win I'm happy, a more comfortable win will be better for our collective blood pressures...

Now that it’s here , have a nervous excitement to see how we play this tactically,
I think it’s fair to say we know what we are getting from Ireland, unless they are holding something back , but you would think they will go back to the stuff that has troubled us recently, why would you change that .
But we have tweaked our set up to counter the likes of them , and now we get to see how it works .

BBBR needs a huge game as the last time he played Ireland was the worst I've seen him play for the ABs.

TAB odds are clearcut for all the QFs.

If you believe these; South Africa, New Zealand, England and Wales will all win comfortably.
I'd bet against that happening - though, I reckon the Jaapies will be comfortably too good for Japan.

Discipline is crucial. We can't be giving away the silly penalties that we gave away in Dublin.
Whitelock and Brodie were the two biggest offenders that night. They both need huge games against Ryan and Henderson who are both world class.Long periods defending concerns me most, that is where we are most likely to concede penalties and or cards , and not rocket science to think this what Ireland will try to do .... again

Nothing to worry about. Ireland are the most predictable team in the tournament.
Sexton kicks ball. Toner alternative catches. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Pass. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Loop. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Tackle. Ruck. Pass. Ruck. Ruck. Ruck. Ruck. Ruck.
Try. Restart.
Sometimes there’s a kick in there.
Should be a doddle.

Yep. New Zealand 1/5 Ireland 5/1.

Madness!
Good for an insurance bet though!

i was honestly about to post almost exactly this!
But, just like one D Pocock, it may be one trick, but they are fucking good at it. And, that exact game plan is the best way to beat us. They just need to do it better than they have done all year. And i for one think they will be all over it this week, it's a huge game for Irish rugby.
And, to that point, do we do a Cheika, ignore their tactics, and just pick the side to play our way the best? Or do we pick back 3 guys who can take high balls?
Knockout rugby is an absolute fluffybunny, and therefore my anxiety about this game will build during the week, despite my earlier blase ambivalence

@mariner4life I think they have shown the preferred back 3; Bridge, BB, Reece (maybe swap Reece for BFA?)
I think the team almost picks itself, think they have been showing us thier intentions, only real point of contention is 12/13...
