now would be a good time to visit planet rubgy, the swarm as they call Irish fans are deeply and understandably unpopular
Normally avoid PR like the plague, but this post was bloody priceless:
"One of the most one sided ref performances I’ve ever seen. That said, Japan played us off the pitch and fully deserved their win, well done."

Thank you Japan!!! you have made this tournament far more exciting for me!!
I was starting to think it will be boring until the semis for NZ but if you can beat Scotland (which I believe you can) then the quarter final becomes far more exciting because there is actually a chance we can lose to Ireland.

When Japan beat South Africa in 2015, Japan was 13th ranked and South Africa 3rd.
Today, Japan was 10th ranked and Ireland 2nd.
This was more emphatic IMHO
Yup they absolutely slapped them. A couple more bounces go their way and it’s a 20 point victory. What a performance.

we have to win all our games once we get out of pool play, be it Ireland, Scotland, Samoa or Japan, it makes zero difference who it is.
Having an easy quarter final makes a big difference.
The question is which is the easy quarter finals?
Japan at home with some belief looks the hardest or an Ireland that may not show up and are struggling with injuries? Samoa look a little reckless to seriously challenge Ireland and Scotland might scrape a win against Russia. I'd like Scotland in the quarters, but I think they will be on their way home.

@akan004 although there is an argument that if Ireland do end up 2nd in thier pool, it is an 'easy' quarter because they have finished behind either Japan, Samoa or Scotland...or maybe they wont even get out of thier pool...

Isn't this result kind of bad for us and potentially good for the Boks?
Potentially yes. But I think Ireland’s gameplan has been found out. They also rely on sexton who has been under an injury cloud. They also can’t take the Samoa game for granted so only Russia can get the B team. If they play like today though, NZ wouldn’t be losing.
How many of the team that just lost to Japan were their best team or was it all second stringers? Just wondering if total lack of depth partially explains the loss.

Absolutely. Not sure why some are so happy with this result.
Are you really concerned after seeing that?
How can the Irish believe they can beat the All Blacks or the Boks when they can’t beat Japan? They aren’t French, who can shake a result off like that, their team is mentally farked now.
The Boks lost to Japan and then almost beat us in the semi.
-
Nothing Samoa showed against Russia leads me to believe they are in the mix.
This is a 3-horse race IMHO.
If Japan play fast and loose against Scotland they could well lose. England almost did in the 6N.
Japan play this way against Scotland and Samoa and they'll top the group.
Regardless of what Ireland do.

If Japan won this it would it be bigger than the win against the Boks in 2015?
No chance of that happening.

It was close to first team: Sexton, Aki, Henshaw injured. Otherwise that was pretty much their top 23.

Exactly. Having an “easy” quarter makes a HUGE difference. Saying “we have to beat whoever we play anyway” is a massive over simplification.
People are getting way ahead of themselves thinking this result means Ireland are easy beats. The Boks weren’t in 2015 after getting done by japan.
It will be shit if this results in the Boks getting the easy run through the quarters and IMO would increase their chances of winning the whole thing a fair bit.
