Fuck you Schmidt - post-match interview.
You weren't hard done by, you were done over.
Wear it.
Disappointed by his response. Always rated his grace in defeat until now.
Easy to be gracious when you lose to teams that have a recognized chance of beating you.

No Plan B for Ireland.
Schmidt shown up. Again.
And the real problem was plan A was "play for 15 minutes, score a few points and go home early"

Isn't this result kind of bad for us and potentially good for the Boks?
Absolutely. Not sure why some are so happy with this result.
Are you really concerned after seeing that?

Potentially yes. But I think Ireland’s gameplan has been found out. They also rely on sexton who has been under an injury cloud. They also can’t take the Samoa game for granted so only Russia can get the B team. If they play like today though, NZ wouldn’t be losing.
-
@antipodean Of course. You can't rule out a good team based on one bad performance. I heard the same talk in 03 leading up to the semi against the wobs.

How can the Irish believe they can beat the All Blacks or the Boks when they can’t beat Japan? They aren’t French, who can shake a result off like that, their team is mentally farked now.

we have to win all our games once we get out of pool play, be it Ireland, Scotland, Samoa or Japan, it makes zero difference who it is.

Having an easy quarter final makes a big difference.

When Japan beat South Africa in 2015, Japan was 13th ranked and South Africa 3rd.
Today, Japan was 10th ranked and Ireland 2nd.
I wanted to say that the 2015 victory was bigger, but Japan just didn't let SA get away and scrapped home at the finish. And the world rankings below 8-10 are a little hit and miss anyways because the teams don't play often enough.
But Japan basically dominated 75% of this game - this wasn't a lucky win, it was a come-from-behind, dominate the opposition, never give up victory. While Ireland looked poor, they were made to look poor and if Japan had had some luck, they could have scored more.
So yeah, this beats Japan's victory over SA.
