Rassie has also mentioned he would like to beat the ABs in NZ to provide some momentum for the RWC, like England did in 2003.

France showed in 99 and 07 it is much better having the ABs put 50+ points on you in Wellington in a RWC year if you plan on beating them at the tournament.

Rassie should follow that plan instead.

    or 50 in Sydney

fuck, that's quite the statistic. No big wins lads (not that there is any chance of that)

They did lose by 33 points in 2011. While not 50, it is still a hiding.

2020-2021-2022 that's all irrelevant anyway, apart from the 2023 RWC, just a bunch of warm up matches

This. I reckon Rassie will be ambivalent about a win here. They could play the ABs 3 times this year, but may only need to beat them once to win the RWC. I think he'll have a similar attitude to the RWC pool game - a win would be great, but a loss would still given them a good shot at winning the tournament. The winner of that pool would get an "easier" QF against Scotland (probably), but given recent history that's hardly a fait accompli. And beating the ABs once in a RWC final - assuming both teams make it that far - would be easier than beating them in pool pay too.

Here's hoping they've read the fern these last few weeks then they'll be relieved to know there's actually nothing whatsoever riding on this game.

Vaea Fifita understands that too judging by his efforts over the weekend.

@Chester-Draws said in TRC: The All Blacks against the Springboks (version 98):

Italy Argentina are exactly as good as you would expect for a minority winter sport in a soccer mad country.

If we play them, then apparently it's apparently a meaningless romp for us. If we refuse to play them, then were are snobbish piston wristed gibbons who don't want rugby to thrive. For some people, there's no way anything we do will be right.

And while Italy Argentina will struggle to beat the top nations, it's only that way precisely because they do take them seriously. If we run out a badly under-strength side against them, then we can expect to be beaten. It wasn't that long ago that the Springboks discovered that.

    There you go fixed that.

Do you consider a Test Match vs Italy a serious game? πŸ’° πŸ’°
Especially one which ends up being 3-66....
Italy are Tier 2 nation with a tier 1 Economy
They're mere cannon fodder in 6 Nations

Moreover when was the last match you saw an ABs side spend 30 seconds in an opponents 22 in 2nd half a Test Match πŸ‘€
Pumas set up camp on ABs 40 metre line

Pumas 2nd half mauling was for nothing as they made too many errors when they had the pill I look forward to play NZ in Buenos Aires in 2020 with a very similar side

What has Italy got to do with a single thing you have posted above ?

Italy appear to be part of the massive chip he has on his shoulder over other teams that occupy the same tier as Argentina. Japan and Scotland being the others.

But 2020 is going to be the year the Pumas/Jaguares DOMINATE! Or maybe 2021 or 2022 or 2023. No one else stands a chance because they are all rubbish or their players will be past it by then.

    Nice projection there

Find me a response on TSF where I've mentioned Italy beforehand.... I have no interest in Italian rugby beyond them being bottom feeders in 6 Nations

Likewise I have no care in the world for Scottish & Japanese rugby beyond both sides importing 2nd rate Mercenaries for their national side

Yes Italy are terrible. As a Scots fan I love that they're in the six nations.

I am slightly triggered by this though, Scotland are still 7th in the world althoughas @Jaguares4real says rankings are ultimately meaningless ( just like test matches ) so I shouldn't get so wound up.

My views on World Rankings is: they don't fucking matter

You think England & France are happy with Argentina in their RWC Pool?
You think Wales & Australia are happy with Fiji in their RWC Pool?

    To an extent Yes

But remember teams in TRC are of a much higher quality than in 6 Nations & travel itinerary is rough for the Pumas to boot

Moreover Pumas were playing TRC before Super Rugby so there was little prep to adjust playing style and conditioning for the comp Add a lame duck head coach post 2015 RWC and you have 6 years of futility

Only in last 18 months has there been a semblance of continuity in ARG rugby Time will how Quesada + Ledesma coaching ticket improves ARG rugby overall

Without having the stats to back it up, the Argies have consistently been a tough out in RWC play for at least the last few tourneys. The other teams in their group should beware
