@sparky huh, I thought Jordie was pretty awful.

Was Simmons already in his number 1s at full time?

@Stargazer I just find it silly bringing guys on so late that aren't injury replacements but never mind. He virtually walked back 10 metres from a penalty before the game ended.

@Bones Jordie was far from error free but he was busy and looking for work all game. He made 63 metres with the ball (more than any other Hurricane) and he made all his tackles and all his kicks at goal.

@sparky Ardie impressive, hope he can sustain and continue to improve. Jordie's kicking was excellent - kept the Canes in it and dug them out of a few holes near the death. Methinks we may need his size 10 boot in the WC.

@ShadowTrooper small feet for a tall fella. Sounds suspicious.

I was at the game, for a fairly full stadium the atmosphere was terrible. To be fair I was i the Menzies, but you could hear a pin drop and I don't think I heard a sound other than a semi-audible groan when Foley missed.

Canes pretty dominant in the final 25mins, looked the Tahs had run out of puff. Canes strikingly bigger units. Tahs needed to make more hay from the early penalty dominance

On Brooky, surface aside, I actually don't mind the ground. The viewing is pretty good, and the hill is great on a sunny winters afternoon. Its the facilities and management of the place that shit me, and would be so easy to fix. I waited 25mins for a beer in the 1st half which is just outrageous in this day and age. And when you finally get to the front the choice is Great Northern and mid-strength rum&coke. Peanuts the only food in this queue, you gotta go elsewhere for a pie.

    So bad.

@voodoo The atmosphere was pretty good in the cheap seats (the hill).

There was initial cheering when Foley missed where we were sitting, before they realised it was a miss, and laughing by us Kiwis (and the other groups of Kiwis scattered around us. It was funny when the crowd started shushing everyone when he was lining up the kick,.

Yeah the facilities are hopeless, two of our group went to get food and drinks at about 7:20pm and didn't return until well after the game had started at 7:45pm.

It's a pity that quite a lot of members didn't turn up - there were large areas of spare seats.

Jordie was a bit all over the place, he'd do a good thing and then cancel it out with a bad thing - stuff DMac would get pilloried for. But, I think in this one the good easily outweighed the bad. Thought Ardie had a good game, seems to have carried on his good form from last year.

Usually I'd leave this up to @Stargazer but seriously WTF is Goosen doing getting a start while Lowe doesn't even make the flight to Sydney? He offers nothing, at the least Lowe knows how to make something out of shit ball - being on the end of the Magpies backline last year.

Also, funny to see the game end with TJ at 10. Along with Leger starting, what is going on with our 10s at the moment?

Oh well, it was good to get to a live match, even if it was at Brookvale, but I have a mate who lives above the park so we had a BBQ before hand so it was a decent day out.

Positives to take out of the game

    1. We showed alot of patience with ball in hand when things weren't flowing and both of the tries we scored were off periods of sustained pressure.
    2. Ardie looks like he has continued that 2018 form and was easily the best Cane on the park.
    3. Our scrum actually performed quite well, though we will find out on Saturday where we are truly at in that regard.

    Negatives:

    1. Our dicipline on defence really prevented us from getting any real ascendency in the game.
    2. Our pack looks way too small for Super Rugby. We only competed this week because the Tahs seem to be in the same boat. Looked more assured when Walker-Leawere came on.
    3. Fletcher Smith - I like this kid but he had a shocker debut for the Canes. His kicking game was very average and doesn't seem to have much power from the boot.

Changes I would make for next week.

    1. We need to start Coles. He is our captain and shows the way with his nitty gritty style of play. If he starts then Aumua comes onto the bench for impact purposes.
    2. Start Walker-Leawere. We will need size against the Crusaders if we are to bank points in Chch.
    3. Drop Goosen, he is too small for Super and is shocking under the high ball. I think this will be offset anyway with Proctor returning and Aso moving back to the right.
    4. Convince Beauden to return a week early.

@Canes4life Yep agree with all the changes suggested fro next week.
Was impressed the Canes stayed in the fight though, and that (plus Jordie's boot) is what got them over the line. Compare and contrast that with tghe Chiefs who had the bloody game there for the taking ,and let it slip from right under their noses to a much hungrier Landers side.

Perhaps it has something to do with the Highlanders being down to 14 men for the last 13 minutes of the game......

@ShadowTrooper Very true, Jordie Barrett's boot was a savour on Saturday. A bit of a worry now if he goes down considering Marshall is broken. I suppose we have Skudder in the ranks but I'm not sure whether or not he is ready to play.
