@Crucial that's really sad.
Yeah, I get that there was nothing in it but considering he is paid to be impartial it wasn’t a clever look considering that team was still in the comp.
Doesn’t put any doubt on the decision but does cast an appearance of enjoyment that one team won over the other. Similar to the bad look of a ref low fiving a player during a game.
He may be back for the final. -
It's the right call.
Imagine a photo in 2007 of Barnes celebrating missing a forward pass with French fans, a big cheeky grin on his face.

Not great judgement

That's a completely different context though isn't it? Peyper isn't celebrating getting an important call 100% wrong.
-
Peyper's job is to judge things impartially. Taking that elbow photo shows poor judgement, and could imply a lack of partiality.
World Rugby has enough stress around referring controversies, given how stupidly difficult/inconsistent the modern game is, they don't need this distraction on top of it.
Not surprised he got the arse.

Yeah, it's pretty shocking Garces is still there, let alone in charge of a match. He's the worst fucken ref at the cup alongside Raynal. WR just love throwing their fingers up eh.
I thought Garces was excellent in the QF, for what it's worth.
Nah, I think he bottled it massively early in the second half when Aus got close and were hot on attack. It's only when the score blew out that started refereeing the game properly.

Agreed. It's amazing how all the refs swallow the whistles in World Cup knockouts when its close. I hope the ABs are aware of this and modifying their play accordingly.

I think they have been acutely aware for many years. 12 to be exact.... 🤬

One potentially encouraging result of this is that teams have to play and score tries - or drop goals - instead of trying to milk penalties. The flipside is obviously that doing so becomes harder, because defending teams feel they're less likely to be penalised by pushing the boundaries.
For mine, this is why I think good starts and leading into the last 15-20 minutes is so crucial - with the way the referees are going so far in this tournament, I'd much rather be the team holding on to a lead than the team trying to chase one down.
-
@Stargazer so if you divide our ave points by 6 it matches when you do the same to our tries in the Englsnd game...wonder how close our other stats go to match

**We are talking about the stream of teenage dopers aspiring to become Springboks. We are talking about Aphiwe Dyantyi – the 2018 World Rugby breakthrough player – testing positive for anabolic steroids and metabolites on July 2nd.
“They are massive,” said Conor O’Shea. “The most powerful side I’ve seen on a rugby pitch.”**
Sounds like a legit problem to me

@Machpants Interesting body shapes for rugby players...
-
@Steven-Harris after seeing some of the after game pics I wonder if those were airbrushed a little...

When's leg day?

As if it were possible, Scotland's RWC gets worse.

Ouch! Does seem rather petty by WR, but I guess you reap what you sow. It's kinda funny...
