Ian Foster explains why Mo'unga wasn't released for Mitre 10 Cup (video in article):

    Error 404

The more and more I hear Foster talk I think we are in good hands going forward after Shag.

    Ahhhhhhhhh!

Foster talked up a storm for the Chiefs too. He's a likeable man, who knows a lot about rugby.

What he couldn't do was sustain good performances in his teams. Something was wrong with the way he mentally prepared them. The Chiefs were fragile, even when winning.

Also he couldn't sack his favourites. Promising players who were promoted but didn't deliver (de Malmanche, say) were never dropped.

He's not a terrible coach, but we have better options.

Please don't compare those swamp rats from the Waikato to the AB environment thats like comparing a zephar to a procshe

I may just be a swamp rat, but at least I know how to spell Zephyr & Porsche

As Mark Richardson meant, if he was smart enough to realise it - "nobody who always gets shit wrong likes a corrector".

I don't see why Read couldn't cover 7, with what we now expect from our openside.

If they throw on TTT and DMac for Smith, it's a pretty green backline.

All Blacks Head Coach Steve Hansen said: “While we’ve made a number of changes from our last outing, this is not a reflection on Argentina but rather a desire by us to grow the experience and depth of our squad. Secondary to that, we also know that if we don’t use the whole squad across a long season, we’ll run out of steam later in the year.

“In making these changes, it also needs to be said that the high expectation we place on ourselves remains the same, regardless of who we’ve selected. The All Blacks jersey demands this.”

Hansen added: “We’re very aware of the Argentinian challenge. We know that they’re hungry for Test success against the All Blacks and after their recent win over South Africa, they’ll be coming here confident that they can achieve their desired goal.

“This means that we’ll need to step up with our own response and be better than we were in our recent Test in Auckland. We’ll need to concentrate on setting a strong foundation throughout the 80 minutes, particularly in our set pieces and our strike plays, along with our defence. Throughout the week we’ve concentrated on getting our personal and team processes right and delivering on these will also be key come Saturday.”

    Key facts

    • Nelson has strong historical connections to New Zealand’s national game: the first recognised game of rugby played in New Zealand took place on Saturday 14 May 1870 between Nelson College and the Nelson Football Club. A crowd of 200 watched the game at Nelson’s Botanic Reserve with the “Town” team beating the College side 2-0.
    • The nearest the All Blacks have come to playing in Nelson was in 1972 when they played Marlborough in Blenheim. They won 59-10.
    • The All Blacks and Argentina have played each other 26 times since 1976 with the All Blacks winning 25 times and a 21-all draw in Buenos Aires in 1985.one draw.
    • The last remaining tickets to the Nelson Test are still available from www.allblacks.com/tickets

    Can't believe it isn't a sell-out (yet).

So only Hemopo with no time so far? I guess he'll give a crack in Arg. Some of the heavy hours guys may miss that week and go straight to SA again like last year, I guess.

Green team, esp bench, if Argy can actually play well twice in a row it could be tight. Actually, I think it will be tight as we're always crap first game against them at home - Bledisloe secured, Boks next week, relax subconsciously.

"This is the All Blacks' first test in Nelson and they've definitely embraced the good weather and relaxed atmosphere." I hope not, last time we had lots of embracing the atmosphere reports and selfies from the ABs was in Chicago...

Ahh yes the city of Chicago is very comparable with the great metropolis of Nelson

    Stuff

Video gives a brief summary of how Nelson got this test. Inno-fucking-vation!!! 🙂

n.b. We've redone the drainage, but it won't be required for this game - there's been two days of sun already dried out the ground and more to come.

It's going to be hard and fast!

Interesting team - Hansen's made more changes than I thought he would - though I guess Rieko and Moody are injury enforced.

I'm slightly surprised that Frizell gets the start ahead of Squire and I'm a bit surprised to see TTT on the bench.

If Perenara pulls up lame in the first five minutes we'll have an backs combo of TTT, Mo'unga, Laumape, Goodhue - less than 10 caps between them?

My take (excluding Crotty, notwithstanding AB suggestions he's fully recovered):

    15 Jordie Barrett
    14 milner skuddar
    13 Jack goodhue
    12 Anton Lienert-Brown
    11 waisake Naholo
    10 richie mo'unga
    9 aaron Smith
    8 Kieran Reid
    7 ardie savea
    6 Liam Squire
    5 Brodie retallick
    4 scott Barrett
    3 owen Franks
    2 Codie Taylor
    1 Karl tuuinukuafe

    Replacements-
    Tim Perry
    Ofa Tu’ungafasi
    nathan Harris
    Sam cane
    Jason Hemopo
    Te taraua tahuriorangi
    Damian McKenzie
    ngani laumape

Too many changes I think. I get the opportunity to give some guys a break before the rest of the year but if BB is going to rest we need BFA at 15 to keep an experienced read on things.
Also think that if/when RM is going to start, they will pair him with Crotty.

Glad they rested Cane and Crotty. Not a fan of Whitelock (L) covering 7 (if that's the plan). Guess after the Argies handled Bok pack TWM decided Whitelock (S) had to be there to cover BBBR.

Frizzell gets slot Fifita so shone in last year.

BFA makes sense, but TJP and Laumape sandwiching Ritchie on debut suggests a deep end approach (versus my Nugget/ALB combo). One thought is they want a straight comparison with how BB goes between them at Super level. If the backline gels, maybe Laumape's communication isn't that bad?!
