2018 Football World Cup

Two great matches.
Happy to be 0-2 with my predictions on these performances

@virgil It had to be whiplash, or he got his teeth stuck in the ground.
The replay clearly showed the contact was in the back, not the back of his head.
That's why I liked the ref as you saw so many players get up after they realised they couldn't con the ref.

Maybe he could teach all the other refs?

How good is Cavani? Would be brilliant if all the big nations (and England) went out now or in the quarters.
Youaregay vs Belgium and Croatia vs Switzerland would be farking mint.

Really want a new winner ... but I guess Uruguay wouldn't be a bad alternative. Been 68 years.

Is it wrong of me to want England to get close, real close, but not quite go all the way?
-
@crazy-horse England's cup to lose in my opinion. The draw looks good for them and they are playing well.

@act-crusader reverse psychology?

And I am going to say that to every Englishman I meet over the coming days. Should be fun.

can't even fathom the media wank if Eng won the whole thing. They're still having a colossal daily tug over the last one in 1066.
That's why it would be amusing to see them cut off moments before the money shot.

The ref also carded Ronaldo for arguing!
That would calm things down a bit, if they did it consistently.

England winning anything is a fucken fate worse than death ( except cricket strangely enough )

I hope so. The ref for the Brazil-Mexico match is Italian. Expect Neymar to spend plenty of time rolling on the ground.
If he intends to suck free kicks anyway they might as well give him a decent kicking

Mbappe definitely arrived in that game. I know he already arrived last summer but he's now a World star and what a player he is. When you've got pace like that, close control and 2 great feet ....
Really enjoyed the games today. Uruguay were masterful at managing the game as Portugal through a lot at them and their midfield are terrier. Also like their left back Laxalt.
Still no idea who will win. For England, this is where Southgate has to earn his money - does England have the nous to win knockout football?

That's mean. They have sucked for years. And taken an awful kicking from their press.

Anything but an expert on English football, but this is one of the few recent World Cups where the media, pundits and people in pubs seem to have realistic expectations. The lack of rah-rah-rah in quite striking
Southgate seems to handle the press well, is uncontroversial and doesn't attract the sort of attention previous managers have done. Helps that he's played in successful England teams as well.
If they win their first knock-out game and get on a roll they could do well - in the past a lot of England teams seen as average have surpassed themselves
