The All Blacks were honoured in Spain overnight, being awarded the Princesca de Asturias award for sporting success at the Campoamor theatre in Asturias. The award is handed out to acknowledge those who make a significant achievement in science, humanities or public affairs, established by Felipe, Prince of Asturias in 1980. A delegation from New Zealand Rugby, including CEO Steve Tew, current players Israel Dagg and Jordie Barrett and legends Keven Mealamu and Conrad Smith accepted the honour. After accepting the award, Mealamu led the rest of the players in a haka to the gathered audience.

New Zealand sevens player Sarah Goss and rower Robbie Manson have won the Oceania athlete of the year awards at the ANOC (Association of National Olympic Committees) 2017 Awards in Prague.

Don't think BB should have been nominated. Folau or Farrell for me.

Folau would be my choice
-
Folau for me - I don't think he's had a huge standout year this year, but then again, I don't think anybody has in the SH.
Itoje has been immense, but not THAT immense (part of me thinks if is name was Smith, he wouldn't get half the plaudits he gets, but thats another discussion ...).
Farrell is worth a shot, and worthy of his nomination, and would be my runner up.
Barrett is just odd, he's had some moments of brilliance, but hardly a bucketful. Ioane as arguably been the best All Black, but think best new player or whatever it is he's nominated for is a more fair assessment.
-
@family-man Mine, too. And of all NZ nominees, Portia Woodman has to be the most deserving.

I think for NZ the forgotten man of awesomeness this season is Aaron Smith. He has been outstanding in every match
-
I don't think Aaron Smith was that good this year. He has never reached the same level he had before the toilet incident last year. For me, he's definitely not more worthy than BB or Ioane.
If he hadn't been injured, I think Moody would/should have been in contention. Props hardly get the recognition they deserve, and he's had a great year until his shoulder injury. Sam Whitelock is another one. Different type of player to Retallick, but just as good in what he does. Certainly better and more deserving than Itoje.
-
Conor Murray has been excellent this season too. As has Tadhg Furlong.
For NZ Moody was having a dazzling season until his extremely untimely injury. I really really hope he comes back with the same form.

Ditto Sam Cane, hardly ever gets any recognition (outside the fern), even if he has constantly been one of the best(if not best) OS flankers in the world since 2015.
-
Based on what I've seen this season across the hemispheres and the competitions, my World XV 2017 would be something like
- Moody (NZ)
- Guirado (Fra) although Creevy (Arg) and at times Marx (SA) are also in the mix
- Furlong (Ire)
- Retallick (NZ)
- Itoje (Eng)
- SOB (Ire) - yes, yes I've moved him to 6, I know
- Cane (NZ)
- McMahon (Aust) - but no real standout candidates at 8
- Murray (Ire)
- Barrett (NZ) but Sexton (Ire) could just as easily have this slot
- Ioane (NZ)
- Farrell (Eng)
- ?, not a stellar year for world 13s
- Hodge (Aust) - although I think he's played 11 more than 14
- Folau (Aust)
No doubt some dodgy enough choices on my part, but 12 months is a long time.
-
Good team, but surely Jonathan Davies is a must for 13?
I would have Marx as hooker. Agree with Cane and O'Brien as top 2 flankers, with Hooper and Matera pressing. Mafi and Parisse close for 8? Beale, Kuidrani and Daly all contenders in backline, with latter maybe ahead of Hodge. So many contenders for lock with Whitelock, Nakarawa, Etzebeth, Wyn Jones all worthy candidates. But, the three-quarters and loosies not so blessed with standouts.

Ah yeah Davies forgot about him. Ditto for Beale. Nakawara is a good call too.
