That Ofa fella has scrummed ok....
He always has, at test level.

@Rapido where do you draw the line, some refs are so pedantic about being on the exact spot, you may as well remove the ability to take a quick tap.
IMO as long as you are behind it and within a few metres I don't have an issue.
The only time you can take a quick tap, legally, is from an offence where ref can physically mark the spot. E.g. An offside penalty or from an offence where play has subsequently moved off the spot. This is ignored in the modern game, but in this Nig didn't even enforce the modern reffing cop-out of making Smith tap it in line with where we know the spot is going to be. It was panicked reffing, no wonder the defence wasn't in place.
Quick tap tries are usually shit, cheapened soft shit. At least that was the first good quick tap try I have ever seen.
The sport would be less complicated if played and refed to the rules. Rather than rules that apply only sometimes , it's like there are 2 layers of rules/laws in our sport.

Yep, this. The laws as written, and the laws as applied.
I'm in yuuuge favour of a root and branch re-writing of the laws. Cover off stuff like how and when you can play the ball back in the ruck on the ground with your hands. Clarify tackling people in the air (diving for the tryline example)

So Sops to 10, BB to 15 and Dmac to 14?
Why have a midget as a winger? He really only is a FB at this point of time. He needs space to operate.

@pukunui BB could have scored it, but I guess he thought NMS coulda got closer to posts than him....IF another wing is playing they don't anticipate the intercept to use thier pace to score.
Yes speed is great but isn't everything.
NMS laboured to the corner when scoring his try though, seems to lack explosive pace
He made hard work of both tries. I don't know if his injuries have him down on pace but right now I'd prefer Naholo or Seta on the wing. Maybe Savea too.

I think I am moving into the camp that Ardie does not bring enough size. Just wondering if behind kaino, squire and Cane that Fafita can do more that what Ardie does. Not for moving backwards and advocating Todd. If your 29 odd and haven't cemented a place as an AB there is something missing.

Yeah Brad Thorn!

@Rapido is just another example where the rules are unecessarily complicated, either get rid of the quick tap all together or uncomplicate it by say a quick tap must be at least 1m directly behind the scrum where penalty awarded and maybe a little latitude for width.
-
Just had a look at the replay.
Smith takes the tap at Owens' feet. Which I'm pretty sure you're allowed to do under the laws.
Edit: to further expand, he didn't move away from the mark, he moved towards the referee.

Yeah Brad Thorn!
He'd made the Aussie League team a lot younger than 28 and didn't take that long to crack the ABs after he changed codes, considering how much technical stuff he had to learn.
Joe Stanley would be a much better example of a guy who cracked it really late.
-
@broughie No I just think putting an arbitrary age restriction on a current AB, (who would've been capped again this past fortnight but for a broken hand - already with 8 caps) is fucking dumb talk - fanboy or not!
Hope the coaches know the "29 years is too old" rule for selection

@Chester-Draws Buncey too

Or, if you can only play in Richie's position and you are not Richie/AB captain, then you are not Richie.

@Hooroo Loosehead is still an issue. Am not so concerned about tighthead as come 2019, we will have great quality in Franks, Laulala and Moli. Crockett will be 36 in a couple of years time so we really need to find some guys soon and start developing them. Not sure if Hames is the answer but hopefully he will come good.

I've rewatched the game sober and South Africa was for very large parts of that game, utterly dreadful. A complete inability to do anything off the lineout. A winger that wanted no part of the tackling aspect of the game.
That kick into the corner from DMac was a thing of beauty, pity the rest of his game was dross.
Hinton would be feeling pretty pleased with his commentary on Hames after that run on debut. The rest of the All Black forwards were simply superb.
