I'm guessing we will take this as a loss and they almost take it as a win ,
That's the part that sucks the most , it's more of a loss to us than them
Doubt it. The Lions players looked pretty disappointed as well. And why wouldn't they be. Good teams often stay in games when they are don't play the best. They would expect to win and they didn't, so naturally wouldn't be claiming any moral (Aussie) victory.

People are being harsh on Savea. I have no fucking clue why they picked him but they did. Then he dropped the ball with an open line with four minutes gone. Then he did what he does not normally do. He got involved in the game and made a lot of runs. Clearly Ioane was picked in the first place because they wanted speed. In this test they wanted power. I'm sure Naholo would be a fine left wing too but the AB's seem to like to have a specialist wing on each side. If you become a left wing, they don't seem to switch you to the right very often.
Julian Savea is currently the best power left wing in the country. If he is going to have a high workrate then that is probably enough to be in and around the team. Although I would rather have Ioane, Naholo, Ben Smith, Dagg and Jordie in a squad.

I'm with @Tim on Hansen getting stale. Too many stupid media games last week, then suddenly 'ah, it's just a game this week' (taking a pay cut accordingly then I assume), some odd selections, and a team that regressed on their basic skills during the series.
Agree with the comments on never wanting Gatland to coach the AB's, but it better not be Ian Fucking Foster either...

We've got a problem with our goal kicking, and the play of our 10 in running the game. It's a serious fucking problem, because Barrett is the best 10 we have in Super rugby, but he really struggled in this series. Like, fuck me gently, some people were looking for a Carter 2005 from him. How fucking far away from that level of play has he been? IMO, we would have easily won that game tonight with Carter - in current form - playing and taking the kicks. That's fucking worrying.
Agree 100%. Let's see where Beauden goes from here, but this HAS to end Hansen's indifference to our goal kicking. He has openly chastised media who've asked him about Beauden's kicking (or lack of it for the Canes). If you want to crap on about structure and culture and dedication Beauden has to learn how to goal kick - simple.

What an awesome series. Well done Lions.
Wouldve been a shit way to decide the series with that penalty.
ABs had their chances but blew a heap - usually they say the ABs are so clinical - not tonight.
On the positive how good was Jordie - amazing performance - I even saw him pull off a wonder cover tackle.

Why would they be disappointed? They chose the long range penalty over going for the win in the 76th minute? Clearly a draw was enough at least for Warburton.

Think they were hoping for a further chance at a last minute long range penalty...

I'm unhappy with that decision however it should never have come to that. We can only blame ourselves. Credit to the Lions for their D and good goal kickers.
See this is the sort of arrogance I can't stand. Expecting the All Blacks to be up and have "put the game away". They're not robots. They make errors.
Well considering they have been putting teams away for years I don't see why it's arrogant to think they should be capable of doing it again.

Jordie can kick. Problem solved.
Exceeded my expectations.
What fucked me off was that they were pushing the pass way too often. Just do the basics and trust the best pack in the world to win the ball back.

Ok.
Good game.
First half a great half of footy.
Second an absolute arm wrestle.
ABs had multiple chances to put the game away. Seemed to want to throw to the game who was simultaneously catching and getting hit by the D. Blew us 5 or 6 tries that way.
Apart from the lack of advantage on that last non penalty I struggled to find too much fault in the ref, apart from the bullshit at the lineouts. That was farking annoying.
My take was that the ABs created more chances to win and I got the impression they were likely on the better side of territory and possession (but that is gut feel would like to see the stats ) ... I'd like to say they were the better team, but they weren't, but feel they were more likely to win and would be more disappointed.

If the situation was reversed I don't think you we would be as kind.

@mariner4life yeah it is frustrating alright, try to teach kids the ref is right even when wrong, add in the number of BI players that were at the ref quite alot of the game too, WR needs to stamp that shit out, this aint soccER
There was one point after a scrum where Murray wandered off to the touchline to have a whinge at the AR. Then Marshall said "that's good from Murray". WTF? Since when has whinging at the ref become a good tactical ploy in rugby? There's already enough heat on them, I thought the directive was that only the captain can question the ref, I'd like to see that enforced. That's not having a go at the Lions, both teams were guilty of it.
-
Fuck I'm lost - have discarded about 12 posts because I'm so dissatisfied with it all.
But basically @M4L said it all:
So the old adage of " there's no point whinging, the ref isn't going to change his mind" no longer holds true?
I'm fucking seething. That was unprecedented, and not only that, wrong. To use a replay to change your mind on a penalty is bad enough, but to compound it by getting the decision wrong is unfathomable.
the fella caught the ball then realised what he'd not accidentally done and dropped it
