Parker v ??

Ive met JP a number of times (through work) and hes very humble. Its all Higgens and hype building IMHO. The problem is though that Higgens is pretty dam bad at it
I would go as far to say he would be the worst ever in modern boxing times?
Every time it is just a massive cringe.
-
I believe they have been encouraged by Hearn to make some noise to help promote it , as cringy as it might be , have to say it’s working , it’s making headlines on the boxing pages .
-
I don't care if I'm on my own here as it seems to be the cool thing to hate Duco in this country, but David Higgins is doing a good job and has done a very good job for Joe throughout his career. Good to see him going there and ruffling a few feathers too. Far better than listening to the usual AJ wankfests that we usually have to hear from matchroom and sky sports.
-
No-one knows who Parker is over here in the UK haha. Makes for an interesting 2 months build up.
They will sure enough know by March 31 - hopefully Parker isn;t just in it for the purse and we get to see something of the "fast hands" we know he has. -
Remember when Shane Cameron's manager decided it would be a good idea to use his key ring torch, to cringe worthy effect, in the presser before Cameron was basically ruined by Tua? "See that little light? Well its going to be [turns light off] lights out for David Tua..."
Higgins is like that every time he opens his mouth. Its like someone's westie uncle has stumbled drunkenly into a press conference and they're actually letting him speak. There's so much corny ass machismo going on. Higgins is the personification of a bright yellow trans am at a traffic light with a bright red outline eagle on the bonnet, hard out revving its engine at teenagers while blasting "eye of the tiger". Out of date.

I remember Cameron tried the old 'O for awesome' stuff to try and wind up Tua. Fair to say it didn't work.

@raznomore Well to be fair there's no way this fight would be happening if Mr Higgins sat on the fence and was nice and respectful. In the boxing world you have to do a few wacky things to get the results everyone wants and thanks to the drunk westie uncle this fight is happening. If he sat around and did nothing but admire AJ like most people seem to do, the we'd probably see Joe lining up against Kyotaro Fujimoto, Tom Schwarz or someone along those lines which no-one wants to see and Duco would cop criticism for being a small time company that nobody knows and we wouldn't have this unification fight as a result. David Higgins is no dummy that's for sure.
-
@african-monkey would it have made any difference if had just been HIggins calling out AJ instead of JP who had previously made himself out to be very humble, respectful and polite (yeah I know how daft that is in thier sport)
Genuine question

@african-monkey its not that they went on attack. Its that they did it in the manner they did that is cringe worthy. You can be the bad guy and be cool. But Parker camp come across as amateur.
Its like they sit down and come up with a play. What will get them noticed. And they plan out retorts on what they think Joshua's/Hearn's reactions will be. None of it is of the cuff. They are going to say what they wanted to say regardless of how the presser or interview is going. It comes out weird and contrived.
If they had an ounce of charisma between them it could be so much better.
-
@raznomore It had to be done. You're right they did sit down and come up with a play and it has worked. Off the cuff or not the same shit is still gonna come out of David Higgins' mouth. They've come out as they have been told by Eddie Hearn that to make the fight happen they have to find a way to get Joe's name out there to make the fight happen as he supposedly wasn't a big enough name in the UK and they came out and made a video targetting AJ's weaknesses and have drummed this into people's heads to the point where AJ's team have taken notice and it has annoyed them. Call it amateurish or whatever you like, the bottom line is, is that they found a ploy to make the fight happen and it has worked and now team Parker are going into a unification fight and are looking at a massive payday as a result and as a boxing fan, I enjoy listening to something different at AJ's press conferences other that the same 'stay humble', 'stay hungry' dross we always hear with his fake nice guy personality he puts on for everyone while everyone bows down to him. David Higgins has done a lot of work to make this fight happen, now it's up to Joe and Kevin Barry to find a strategy to make history, he's certainly a live underdog who shouldn't be underestimated that's for sure.

Tua wasn't stupid in that fight, Lewis was clever.
It turned out to be a rubbish fight because the match up was poor. There was no way Lewis was going to be drawn into a scrap and I think he truly respected Tua's power. He simply kept him at arms length and picked off the jabs whenever Tua tried to engage.
I think AJ will be asked to do similar. Don't let JP goad you into a scrap and run the risk of getting caught with a good punch. Stay back and make him come to you.
A boring AJ win won't harm him at all. He would still add a belt and pack out a venue for Wilder.I do wonder though if JP and Barry have been boxing a little clever, not wanting to show much. If so, it almost backfired on them against Fury. We have seen times when JP has used very good head movement and fast combos to surprise opponents. There is also the option to do all the talking about the chin but target the body and arms. Bash those beach muscles until they are very sore before targeting the head.
