i'm surprised that we still have some of the hubris going on, as pointed out by cato.
a 5m wider field? really, that's what is going to make the difference? total bullshit.
we had some injuries, took the game too lightly and got rolled for the first time ever. losing that record is a disaster. i don't think we were taking it lightly in the 2nd half though, so we only have a partial excuse there.
this time around we certainly won't be taking it lightly at all, but we still have injury concerns, and the guys we have got back may be underdone, or not quite 100%. sam and brodie are a huge difference - but on the other side the irish are now at home, and with the monkey off the back they will have a lot more confidence. -
I think there is a nervous confidence...if we play well, we will win, but there is that nagging feeling if we aren't quite there, we will lose, again.
As mentioned already, this has created a buzz about this game nothing since probably the 2011 final IMO

selective quoting doesn't necessarily equate to hubrisThere were plenty predicting Ireland could win one of the 2 games on tour - just most didn't think it would be Chicago and again, most are saying pretty much the same as you. AB's should win - after all they are #1 for a reason - but if they're off their game Ireland are certainly capable of taking advantage.

yeah, most people are probably pretty much on the same page. maybe i'm more nervous, and certainly wouldn't be sticking any $ on us at 1.16 or whatever it is. untested midfield combo. no kaino. squire unproven. read looking a bit tired. cane didn't come back great from injury. both locks just back. dodgy goal-kicking....

one thing i am excited about is scott barrett's skills. showed very quick hands v italy to set up a try. and given how often we've been trying the short ball off the lock in midfield move over the last couple of seasons, he might be just the man for that job.

Already our record with 25 wins on the trot between March 2002 and March 2004, on account of the loss v France in 2003 was only a B team so it doesn't count.

So if New Zealand somehow some way manage to overcome Ireland, the world media will be full of headlines about shock upset, first win for New Zealand in nearly a fortnight....etc, etc

I find the whole circus quite amusing. I've never seen so many articles published on one game - or two even. There was even an article in one NZ paper talking about 5 Irish players to watch out for. That was a first. Normally NZ players say they don't know any of the names of the players. Luke Fitzgerald does his 'controversial' quote by saying the NZ selection for the last game was a bit arrogant, which the media lapped up. Mystique and Aura made an appearance courtesy of Dev Toner. And now Hansen says NZ are underdogs.
I haven't seen such hoopla since 2009.
