All Blacks v Wallabies at Eden Park.

Just watched the game again. I don't know if it's just a one off and perhaps the ABs were not as mentally switched on as they should have been, but it was worrying to see the Wallaby forwards winning the collisions and making dominant runs. Our forwards looked small in comparison to theirs. Was really impressed with their ball carrying, especially from Timani, the two props and their big lock, Arnold.
-
I'd say you could write some off as nerves, they have been in this position twice before, only to be thwarted by Aus....in 2011 we made hard work of a game when we were the better side and were expected to win comfortably against an opposition that we had already soundly beaten only weeks before.
-
Barrett's off day might be partially explained by Steve Hanson's explanation that he'd been sick all week with an ear infection. Hanson was quoted near the end of an article on allblacks.com this morning.

Think ABs tried hard to convince themselves to get up for this one "for the Tier 1 record" but reality is that being pretty fatigued and playing a match of no real consequence was always going to be tough mental hurdle to overcome.
Both Wallaby locks are around 120 kg, so a double-Retallick middle row.

Can I suggest the wallabies just simply shut the fuck up?
We've played and beaten the Welsh Argues and Saffas with nary a bitter word or exchange yet all year (international and super rugby) from Australian rugby folk and coaches have been whinging about refereeing, whinging about foul play whinging about humility, whinging about the media.
Enough already. Take your thrashings (because that's what they've been) like a fair dinkum Aussie bloke and suck it up. That's what they expect of others.
Conversely win more than 3 games a fucking season and we might concede you've not had a particularly good rub of the green.
Christ on a bike it's been tiresome and repetitive all year.
Chinese might have to add a new horoscope- 2016 the year of the pissing and moaning wallaby.

Must admit, the herald clown mock up is in poor taste and not funny. Doesn't even make sense.
I can't remember seeing anything like that from them previously so seems a. It out of character.
Checks must have been pleased with it though. Gave him an excuse the attacke the ABs as opposed talking about his shortcomings.
Overall though the wobs played pretty well for majority of the game

Thoughts on the All Blacks playing without a goal kicker?
Wondering about this.
Beaudy was pretty ordinary in the first part of the Super season. Came right in the ABs camp, but he seems to be regressing.
I wonder how long the coaches will put up with substandard goal kicking - eventually it will cost us a match, so he needs to sort it - otherwise he'll have to be relegated to super-sub status again.
General performance from Beaudy has me wondering again how effective he can be when his forwards are getting munched. I didn't see him trying to take control at any point. In fact after the game I realised I could barely remember seeing him.
They had 30 something percent possession in the first half. He barely had the ball enough to make an impression before he was hooked. When and where was he supposed to take control?
35% is not great but it's adequate. A more controlling performance from a Beauden Barrett would include, for example, taking on the line himself - something that has been his hallmark this season. Aaron Cruden had more direct influence on proceedings when he came on, though admittedly not always positive.
As mentioned, he only had the ball a handful of times in attack. It would be interesting to know at what stage him taking the ball to the line would have been a controlling performance or indeed called for under the circumstances.
Cruden came on and failed to find touch from a penalty and then sent a harmless kick into the 22. With much more possession and a tiring opponent of course he's going to be more involved.
BB totally deserves any criticism for his kicking, which could prove crucial in some of the typical arm-wrestles up north. It could even be argued that Lima S gets the nod if BB cant get at least 70%. But complaining that he didn't control the game enough when his team had 35% possession and he barely touched the ball in attack is absolutely ridiculous.

I remember seeing the richie mcGrub thing last year and didnt like that , it reminded me of what the nrl media do around origin time, and thought nrl paper , probably influenced by that , cheap shots for a laugh, it works for them , but I thought leave it out of rugby ,
Then when i saw the clown thing on the sat arvo , I cringed , I thought we dont have to resort to this rubbish too , just preview the bloody game

Apparently the artist is Australian. So it's probably an Australian thing to do I guess.

There have been so many take-overs or mergers of the media this year that I'm not even sure "our" media aren't Australian now as well.
-
@kiwiinmelb funny, I hadnt even seen it and I expect plenty others hadnt either, but now loads have...despite what Cheika says, the NZR cant control what the media print...oh wait, according to the article yesterday, they do control it...this NZR is a huge beast, what else does it control? The weather, the US Media, surely Hansen is gonna come out in favour of one of the candidates and his support will seal thier victory?

Even funnier, Cheika's cousin once dated the artist's sister lol

To me it looks like a Simpson's reference. Cheika looks like Rory B. Bellows, who is Krusty the Clown out of makeup, ergo Cheika the Clown.
-
Pity Cheika has chosen to whinge. His team selection was good: best balanced this year. They certainly had ABs under cosh, and had certain players not made stupid errors it would have been very tasty indeed. So plaudits to him and his team for coaching, but nil points for PR.
That said, best line from The Hustler was when Newman told, 'Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser.'! -
I agree, Savea was pushed twice and the first time he was a lot closer to the runner-give that man a Speights.
-
Bloody hell the Bledisloe next year is going to be tasty...two games in Aus as well...
Wallabies looked pretty bloody good for most of that game but still came up short. Pretty pumped the All Blacks knocked off that 17 win marker and hope they kick on for a few more.
This whole disallowed try and the news paper cartoon (what a shit idea), seems to be really casting shadow over the series this year.

Christ, is Cheika for real? I've been reading the SMH and the Grauniad and all, and he's spat the dummy big time. What a petulant child. He seems to be calling the NZH a propaganda arm of the All Blacks, as though Hansen ordered a derogatory depiction to be published (and make no mistake, the clown thing is fucking awful and downright rude) and then planted the bguging story on the day of a test match. Then advising all and sundry that some grudge exists between the teams basically because one team beats the other one up all the time.
If so, this is embarrassing for him and his employers. You can't mask your team's failures by having a go at the foreign media. It smacks of paranoia.
Jeez, every team in test rugby not wearing black is only gunning for the silver medal at the moment. His boys basically put in a pretty solid performance, encouraging even, and surely Cheika might have just got a few things right tactically and selectorially last night.
But he wants to pull that shit?
