Jeez the gloating on here is worse than @Canes4life after a hurricanes win.
In my opinion it was a shit call, if it happened against my team I'd be pretty angry.
Our forwards got taught a lesson for the first 50, those 2 young Aussie locks have a lot of potential.
Pity we don't play England this year, they'd really test us there. Ireland in Dublin could be tough.
I'd be angry too, angry at the dipshit player who stupidly took out a defender.
Gloating? What are you on about? Take the piss out of an Aussie coach carrying on like a goose, and Aussie commentators carrying on like gooses is hardly gloating.
Happy to have the 18 in a row, hell yeah.
It reads like gloating to me.
I've seen McCaw run that exact type of line so many times in support and never get called. I think it was wrong.
But yeah, suck shit chieka, @NTA and anyone else Australian (I'm not gloating)
So what if McCaw has done it in the past. The law has been posted in this thread. Watch that video below and tell me how what DHP did didn't contravene 10.1(c).
Quite simply if DHP hadn't of changed his line to push Savea then none of this happens - but he did.
Seriously? My point is it's never been refereed that way in any game I've seen before. I'd love you to point out a similar decision in another game?
Surely consistency in refereeing decisions is important.
-
@SammyC just because something hasnt (or might not have happened identically) happened before, doesnt mean it isnt a breach of a rule.
I woulda been pissed if we had had that ruled against us too, but doesnt make the call any less correct, as shit as it was.
HOw often do we see a penalty for man in front of the kicker, well away from play, and as such not going to have any impact but ref still blows it....dumb rule, but still correct.

Hahaha, I don't have a database memory of all reffing decisions, at any rate, it happened while a try is being scored, it's more likely decisions are reviewed when a try is scored.
You're basically saying you're happy for players to be obstructed off the ball as long as they're behind the ball carrier.

Seriously? Gloating? Pointing out why you think a decision is correct and that the coach's behaviour is out of line is hardly gloating.
I also don't see a lot a scatter gun derision directed at Strayans in general.
I think you have a touch of the Marshalls in trying to be over fair.
FWIW I think in fact @NTA has generally been reasonable fair minded and evdn handed. Generally.

There have been a few instances I can remember. I can even recall a support runner being pinged simply for changing his supporting line to get in between his ball carrier and covering defenders. As someone else pointed out the law covering this does not mention obstruction in front of the ball at all, it just mentions obstruction. You cannot deliberately block a defending tackler. Clever line running will almost always get away with doing so, but when you stick an armour, shove or jersey pull then you are putting your faith in the ref.
When that ref is an idiot like Veldsman, well..... -
Having finished reading the thread a couple of things:
Isn't it great to have something to fight and whinge about on TSF thst isnt the US Election?
Was hugely impressed with Aus. Like their two locks. Expect they will be major pains in our backsides in years to come.
For the first time in a long time I was concerned when we kicked the ball to them just inside their half. Last couple of games you could be content that they'd not be able to build much. Last night they seemed to be able to make ground a build pressure. And yes, if DHP hadnt been an idiot at potentially 15-17 there were real concerns.

Just watching the Cheika presser. I have so far only had your guy's comment to judge by. The actual vision is so so much worse!! 😨
So the All Blacks put the cartoon in the paper and the All Blacks planted the bug story.
He's not a clown he's a comedian.

Disappointing decision by the ref, disallowing a try, but it becomes a moot point and irrelevant when you done by 20+ points. Perhaps a closer game you'd be justified in bringing it up. We just sound like poor losers. The booing though, pathetic, that needs to end. I'm sure the All Blacks players are cringing when they hear their supporters booing the opposition.
-
Kafer lost his shit last night and said that Owens should never ref an international game ever again. I hope he apologizes. Kafer has always been one of the better coms on Fox but that was disgraceful.
Cheika is just an appalling character. His pathetic tantrums and conspiracy theories belong in soccer not rugby. It's a shame because this team does have potential and actually looked well coached yesterday.
I haven't been much of a fan of Liam Squire, but I have to say that he's given me a bit if a stiffy in the past few weeks.

That was just a bit weird - why did they blame the ABs for that? They had the frikkin media who wrote that in front of them, they should have taken that opportunity.
Cheika actually says some reasonable stuff when he just talks about what happens in the game and doesn't go off book.
Is he their Mitchell?

I'm (we're?) getting a bit tired of Cheika having these dummy spits every time the ref makes a call he doesn't agree with. OK the disallowed try, you'd forgive him for losing the plot, but he does it every time something doesn't go the Wallabies way. He did it throughout the Wallabies/Eng series, very tiresome.
re Owens, great ref, he made a mistake, it didn't cost us the game. It could be argued that perhaps if the try wasn't disallowed then the shape of the game would have changed, but after we leaked 20+ points at the end, I don't really see it.

Why did you think he made a mistake? He referred what he thought was illegal play to the TMO. The TMO reviewed the footage and they found that DHP illegally obstructed Savea - which he did.
What mistake did Owen's make?
-
Just quickly.....
Todd was very good. Better than I gave him credit for.
The way through us is running angles back at the ruck on a flat ball.
Kafer said on air that Owens should never be allowed to ref again. Ok you lost your shit for a second but thats not on at all.
IMO there was only a slight chance Savea would have got Speight but there was an opportunity and he was denied it.
Savea is going to eclipse Doug Howletts record at the 55 test mark I reckon.

Not sure of the rules, Savea was never going to make the tackle. If what DHP did is a legitimate offence (shepherding a player in back-play) then the rules need to change.

Actually I don't think Owens referred it - Veldsman wanted to look at it from the replays.
-
@Nepia said in All Blacks v Wallabies at Eden Park.:
@zed Say what? You want to legalise obstruction as long as it happens behind the ball? Have you been smoking the same stuff Kafe seems to be these days?
Lets say that happened 70 metres out - would you call it a legitimate penalising?
lol no. But what DHP did was not significant enough to disallow the try.
