We need to play more direct, off nine
I do hope that Roigard's availability might cause a shift to more of that style.

Robertson has had a chance to test his theories against top notch defence. Now he needs to go win some games on the EOYT to prove he belongs at this level. The standard is wins over England, Ireland, and France. Time is running out for him.
Great article, as always. To me were still trying basically the same shit that hasn't worked for over half a dozen years. You can't outflank the blitz, I was really hoping that razor would move materially away from the 2015 attack. But we haven't, same sort of shit, we're just polishing the turd. We need to play more direct, off nine, more often than we do. But no, abs are too cool to play that way 🙄.
There's no reason we can't be at least as good as every other country in that style of play, with the added benefit of being better in every other way.

I think it's a team headspace thing
I've lost count of the number of times we are making progress close to the try-line, lose faith in ourselves to actually get the forwards over the try-line and spin it seemingly out too early with the inevitable mistakes.

The gameplan is set by the coaches. If Razor wanted us to play more direct we would be doing so. He's using the classic Wayne Smith gameplan

From 90-10m out...
It is odd how Razor is using similar style as we have had, whereas his.super teams always played a style.more.akin to test rugby, and the tighter NH style too.
Hopefully we will see something different in the tour as he really needs to stamp his own style on the team, which as many have said, his continued selection of some players seems he is simply following the same.path we have for 5 -7 years.

@Victor-Meldrew If we lose to England I'll be devastated.
-
If Sititi plays a blinder against Japan I'd throw caution to the wind and swap Savea to 6 v England.
Sititi - Roigard/Ratima- DMac is quite a handful for any team to deal with. -

Sititi - Roigard/Ratima- DMac is quite a handful for any team to deal with.Yeah I don't see him being markedly better than Savea and certainly wouldn't be comfortable it being based off turning up against Japan. If so, why not promote all the players that perform against Japan?

@Machpants from what I hear we are sticking to the fast game plan, Razor reckons he can execute it by the 27 RWC.
The players from Fosters team are getting the first shot and then others will be brought in when they don't cut it. -

Fair points.
It still doesn't excuse Sotutu not getting fitter when he had been asked to.
"he didn’t even get close"
(chchfanatic's sources have been spot on)I’d be fascinated to find out what Cotter would say about his fitness.
And if the Blues wanted more weight on their forwards given their game plan (which worked).
I am really struggling to see how the guy who was the best player in super rugby is apparently not fit. Logically, it makes no sense that someone can play that well despite apparently being unfit.
Or, from the other aspect, why wouldn't you put someone playing that well, unfit, into your systems and get them to your desired fitness?
Anyone know Kieran Read’s bronco times?

Anyone know Kieran Read’s bronco times?Read was quite poor by that metric I seem to recall. Made up for by McCaw being superb. Balance in the trio is key.

I agree completely. Which is why playing multiple 7s makes me shake my head

@nzzp 6 + 8 + 7 = 21
3 x 7 = 21
Same same...however, 6.5 x 3....Are you suggesting that one openside flanker is worth more than a whole front row combined??

Jerry Collins: (8 + 6 ) / 2 = 7
McCaw: 7
Rodders: (7 + 8 ) / 2 = 7.5No wonder they were so good = 21.5
