@Bovidae Potentially, but if we have learned one thing from Jase Ryan, it is that he likes specialists... the way I see it Finau and Blackadder are the blindsides, Papalii and Jacobson (Who is probably holding the spot of Cane) are the opensides, and Savea and Sititi are the number eights.
Sotutu is unique in being a specialist 8, but I doubt that is why he missed selection.
if people who keep telling me Ardie is an 8 no longer a 7 are correct then Sotutu is not unique...

He offers considerably more ball in hand than Papalii or Jacobsen

Yeah again, the Sotutu can only play 8 thing is just an excuse. Surely he could play 6? I reckon he's played 6 before....

I don't see why he couldn't play there. In fact he may have even played there for the All Blacks in his brief stints I'm not sure.

Patty T is an interesting one, another that hasn't really kicked on at international level, 31 with +40 tests and not a nailed on starter is small worry
Yes he's probably just a stop-gap for this year, maybe help the new younger locks get their feet. I am surprised he lasted the season and even more surprised he came back for the final.
Welcome to the Fern newbie.
Good to have you back bro.
For me Patty’s best AB footy was as an impact player off the bench. Him and Ofa Tu’ungafasi bringing some go forward late in the game.
Yes its been a while haha

I'd go as far as to say he at least has as big or close to the same body of work there as Sititi.

just watching Sky open news and saw the team lining up for team photos. There were 40 players in the photo. Managed to freeze the picture and I.D. Josh Lord and Will Jordan as extras along with Darry, Bower, Lakai, Havilli and Love as expected.
Edit: plus Sam Cane. -

Sam Cane ?

From Two Cents Rugby channel.
Hoskins scored way more tries and assists and good passing.
Sotutu is also better in turnovers.
Far less tackles than the others (though Jacobson shouldn't be in there because he was 7)Aligns with the comment on his work on both sides of the ball.
I think they think he shirks the defensive work.
According to this guy Blues made marginally less tackles than the Chiefs overall in the season. Can't vouch for his numbers.Blue line is tackles per game.(Sotutu lowest)
Orange line is missed tackles (Sotutu highest)It's evident to me that their analysis is including the finals, which pumps up Sititi's defensive numbers because that's pretty much all the Chiefs did in the final. Sititi practically doubled his season average.
Season data looks a little more like this:
What's telling is the work on the other side of the ball.
Metres Carries DB CB Passes O TA Points Sotutu 638 120 26 5 124 17 7 55 Sititi 361 102 18 3 46 5 0 10 Guess Razor isn't as interested in attack.
Missing forest for trees.

This should have been identified before and then supported by the right specialist in the Blues/ABs.
The AB coaching set up worked with the Crusaders to take a look at Havili at 10 so you'd expect/think they did the same with the Blues and Hossa.

Lakai is with the team as an ‘emerging player’. He was told he will be with the team for 2 weeks.
At the camp held the other week, Ruben Love was running at 10, Beauden Barrett wasn’t training much due to some kind of injury/infection. As far as I know, he is fine now.
The fact Love was running at 10 during that camp might tell you how big the gap is between those named and the next tier below that weren’t.
Caleb Clarke injury is also fine.

Together We Walk
I hope his coaching is better than his oratory, because that is fucking cringeworthy.
"We come together from all over the country. These players have been given a gift from their mum and dad to play our great game of rugby."
“We’re representing the past players that went before us that left deep footprints and now it’s our chance to walk forward into the blackness.
-
Very reminiscent of Kirwan “Better never stops”

The next tier among those teams that didn't make the final

Re Hoskins: The elephant in the room is how the coaching setup has handled the situation. We don't know what was said during the SR season and before the squad announcement, but Sotutu is clearly upset/pissed off.
From a man-management perspective that is an appallingly bad look.

@pakman said in All Blacks 2024 - selection:
Having an 8 who is excellent in lineout served us very well when Reado was in his pomp.
Seems we only have one top option in loosies, which is Finau.
Read was lucky to be selected really, no versatility.

I hope you're not basing that off a fucking Instagram caption. Has he come out and clearly stated he's upset/pissed off? What have I missed?
