All the contentious selections went with provincial bias of the selectors.

    Ryan with Bell.
Razor with blackadder. Jacobsen is also a bad call and I'm a Chiefs fan.
    McDonald with Perofeta.

In appearing to be fair they seemed to have made it worse.

    Agree.

Also, the captain. Robertson seems to be unable to work with anyone but his mates. I could understand if he had a team of coaches he hardly knew but not the case

They had a chance to make a statement and they blew it. Team has better win otherwise they will be rubbished

Bell especially seems like a joke selection. But I've only watched him closely once for part of a game and then wrote him off. Now he's an AB??

I think the person most under pressure is Jase Ryan.

Cotter has shown that there are others in NZ who can implement a forward-oriented game plan effectively.

And to not put a fine point on it - Cotter is able to do it with brown aucklanders.

If he continues, Cotter is building his resume

I don't have a view either way on Sotutu vs Sititi but thats mainly because my SR watching this year was the 5 minutes highlights in youtube. Sure, Sotutu scored a lot of tries, but I don't really remember seeing him make a lot of them

The top try scorer was also second on try assists. On the other side of the ball he got plenty of turnovers too, looking at NZ loosies he was only behind Harmon (equal with Jacobson). Ruck arrivals he is only behind Papali'i and Jacobson in NZ. Decent lineout forward too.. second most used NZ target

He had a hell of a season

I'm assuming its personal at some level. MacDonald struggled with him early on.

As for the rest of the squad it's fairly predictable apart from Tosi. You knew which way Robertson would go on certain players regardless of SR performances

Looks fairly obvious that it's personal then.

Part of a successful career is managing upwards. If they don't want to select him, then it's up to him to change that.

If his IG post is a direct dig at them (thats an if, btw) then the attitude suggests at this point mgmt are correct in their decision making.

Just going off the GF game, Hoskins work around the beakdown & the tight stuff was not great for an AB's loosie. Wallace on the hand even though he was on losing end, the kid was hitting the breakdowns and making solid contact with and without the ball.

This team naming is a rejection of what is happening at the Blues. That seems clear and raises some interesting questions, because that carry clean game of the Blues would likely give the Saders with Mo’unga a touch up.

They don’t seem to rate it though.

I’m fascinated to see the game plan they’ll employ..

I do like the big ball carrying props (except Newell) and we have impact at hooker. If Pat T is fit and brings his carrying to this level they will hopefully make up for the lack of size and heavy carrying in the loosies.

    It will take 1 test.

If this team loses the first test to England the drums will beat.
You pick 3 opensides and some weirdo outsides and we lose?
    War drums

There is no "warming in to the season"

I'll be interested to see how the ABs defend. Looking forward to seeing a non Scott McLeod AB defence.

Don't wonder - when Japan topped their pool in 2019 Scott Hansen was the defense coach, now he's All Blacks defense coach.

We are going to absolutely dominate this World Cup cycle under this new coaching group.

Kind of agree with what you have been saying. Can't wait for the first test. Beware of Blue sharks circling the surfboard. They are numerous in these waters.

Players like Akira and Hoskins obviously have the talent, and good coaches will get the best out of them. Cotter got them playing to their potential consistently this year, it's obvious the current AB coaches don't believe they can do the same hence them picking their favourites instead of the form players.

Blackadder over Akira might fit your argument but Sititi over Sotutu doesn’t as I’m not sure who’s favourite Sititi is.

I'm hopeful but more cautious given the lack of test experience in the coaching group and a tough slate of tests ahead this season.

    Hopefully the fanboying is justified.

The jury is still out on Ryan for me. Some improvement but still hit and miss. Let's see how he goes with some bandwidth and time to get things right.

He's back with his old mate. No excuses now. Meanwhile, I hope Cotter, Laidlaw and McMillan continue to improve; our coaching stocks weren't looking so flash, now we appear to have 3 good ones

People need to be realistic. Some of the predictions and hyperbole around Robertson - before he's even had one Test - are getting a bit ridiculous.

Hansen coached Canada's attack for a year (2014) and Japan's defense for 3 years (2019-22)

Razor coached Brazil as part of Canterbury rugby's partnership back in 2013.

Ryan spent two years coaching Fiji's forwards, joined All Blacks 2022.

McDonald coached the All Black's XV for 2 years.

Yeah my thoughts exactly, he can properly stamp his mark now, not hamstrung by other coaches or any reservations they may have. He can reap what he sows, hopefully it's bountiful.
