SF - Hurricanes vs Chiefs

Very pleased with that result. But geez I think the TJs and the dickhead TMO really let down Gardner with their oversights and review judgements.
Best game I have seen from Ratima. TJP was at his worst though, trying to milk every advantage. Christie is easily our best test 9 behind Roigard now.
Don't get all the rubbishing Jacobsen Vaai and ALB get on this forum either.
DMac remains most influential player in Super rugby.
And Sititi and Dyer might get watched closer by AB selectors in final.
Thinking hard about a trip to Eden Park next Saturday like about 20000 others from Chiefs territory no doubt!
Anyways great season Canes! Very consistent throughout and so many players playing to peak ability each week. -

Hell of a win for the Chiefs. Around the 55 - 60 minute mark I thought we were about to be run down in a hurry.
A massive physical battle all round. Physios will sur earn their keep after that one.
That intercept from Sititi that led to the try broke us there
A few millimeters the other way and he would have had a yellow for deliberate knock down but it was his night for sure and showed exceptional skill to hold on to it

Let the 9 throw it in like the 70's
Normally was the winger in the 70s over arm style
Berbizier used to throw for the Frogs in the 80s. Underarm. But I digress.

I made a comment before that game about complacency but I actually think it was more of a freeze/choke.
Canes just didn’t want the ball until it was too late.
I think this team just didn't time their run right. The Canes played their best rugby at the start and through the middle of the season. We haven't looked at our best for the last three or four weeks unfortunately. Whereas the Chiefs did the opposite and are timing their run to perfection. I've seen the Canes choke plenty of times but this wasn't a choke in my view, our form just turned to shit at the wrong time.
A huge challenge for Laidlaw next year is to get the guys humming towards the back end of the campaign if they want success. The Blues and Chiefs have gone through the same learnings over the last few years aswell and they are better for it now.

First comment I saw after the game from
A canes supports from our golf club was that it was the refs fault.Classic Hurricanes fan.

You don't win comps in April

filthy casuals are filthy casuals.
Refs sucked, but the Chefs have far more to complain about. The card on Jacobsen was ridiculous. Rugby hates itself.

My view is the coaches lost the plot with selections after about the half way point
Until then their selections were spot on.
Examples They had Viljoen and Higgins both starting and playing very well. Later they were nowhere to be seen. The limited Sullivan and Judd were preferred. Sullivan is very limited but maybe he has good leadership qualities. Like Blackwell and Prinsep. But I hoped this rubbish was in the past.
And other poor selections. Moorby completely lost interest after he signed elsewhere (until then he looked AB quality). He should have been dropped completely. Iose was another one who completely lost form. But they dropped Flanders to the reserves who was just hitting great form and brought Shields back who was just recovering from injury. So, 2 out of three were out of form in the semi.
The biggest issue was not addressing 1st 5. They never even tried even when it was obvious Cameron was just not good enough.
The coaches were much better than the useless top two coaches last year (Holland and Gibbes) but later in the year they lost it. Selections were bordering on Blackwell like. Including having short replacement locks in one game
I hope Laidlaw is able to see this. To see what happened to go so badly off track. Including an idiotic game plan in the semi. If he can do this and find a good replacement backs coach, they have the players to win next year. Otherwise, they will continue to just make up the numbers.

Game plan was flawed, no doubt. We kicked too much ball away, we were overly-expansive instead of keeping it tight and trying to wear the Chiefs down up front. But a very good year for a young team, the Chiefs just showed their quality when it mattered

It's not a young super rugby team anymore.
And going out in this way in the semis, at home, with a team that's easily good enough to win it, is not a very good year. I would say it's a disappointing year.
It's started off looking so good then, due in large part to poor selections, fizzled out badly
