Needs a temporary train station next door for match day transport. Would be O for Awesome.
Also, can't see it happening as no one has any money
there is a permanent station right there i think already, upgrade as part of the development

I think the tight measurements refer to where the stands meet the ground rather than the actual footprint. Having one end mostly open would save on footprint too.
So how are they accommodating the rail lines?
-
i can only imagine underneath so the whole thing is elevated
-
They have to underground the rail and move Quay Street. So yet another two reasons why it will never happen. Defectively it's a commercial development with a wait there's more you get a free stadium! Once only offer!!!!
Problem is commercial development is as stagnant as domestic

Underneath. The existing (temporary) beach road station there will then service both the indoor Arena next door as well as the new stadium.
Every single rail line in Auckland converges on that spot. Western line, eastern line, southern line, the CRL line. I can't think of a better spot for a stadium. Also, the ferries are one stop away outside Britomart.

@Auckman elevated stadium sounds cheap as chips
but less likely to flood than a sunken one

It's official. Council have advanced Eden Park and Quay Park to the next stage of the hunger games - feasibility stage. All to be funded by the bid teams themselves and done within six months.

I just hope Auckland can pull this off. And unlike Wellington (that also has a great location) build a great stadium. Not a piece of crap like the Cake Tin

When it was built, the Cake Tin was the premier stadium in NZ.

seeing as stadiums seem to need large scale refits (or in some cases rebuilds) in that 25-30 year old period....bagging the 24 year old cake tin too much seems a bit route one...."hey old person....youre so old!"

It's oval. There's no roof (it was discussed but it was decided it would cost too much). And it looks like a cake tin. A Fletcher Challenge cheap as possible design
The Dunedin stadium is far and away better

The Dunedin stadium is far and away better
and build 12 years later....and surrounded by huge controversy re cost
to your other points
A ) oval....like almost all of NZ's premier stadiums up to that time
B ) no roof....like almost all of NZ's premier stadiums up to that time...and still like all but 2 in Australasia
