If it is just inability to play through injury/illness, then Jonah Lomu is in the running.
Eighth on the all time try scoring list means he did OK. Certainly curtailed his potential, but he had a stellar career anyway, particularly in world cups.

Going back a long way but Jason Goldsmith was the youngest AB I believe and then disappeared due to savage injury.

Mike Brewer at 6. Jack Goodhue could take a midfield spot
No chance. He played an entire World Cup and a fair few games in between
He literally got ruled out of the 1991 RWC in a fitness test and missed the 1987 RWC due to injury too. But sure, if you say so.
Still played 32 tests and even got picked when he wasn’t in the squad in 1993. Must be some Grade A glass he’s made of.

He played for Waikato while still at school. I remember watching Goldsmith star in Waikato's win against the 1988 Welsh team. He was in the ABs later that year at 18. Retired at 24 due to injuries.

I remember he got a nasty leg break against Canterbury.

I actually saw him play at Ballymore in 1988. Was a bit pissed off because I wanted John Kirwan's autograph and he was playing on the right wing so on opposite side of where I was.

Jasin Goldsmith, just for the record. He made the NZ Colts a few years later, so didn't disappear completely. (I thought he did too, but he just changed province).
If we're going to pick guys who broke very early on, there's heaps. I went to school with Geoff Hinds, though he was a few years ahead. He was always injured, even at school. Made the ABs on the disastrous tour of Australia, which didn't do his chances any good. Was not playing only a few years later, presumably because he was never able to stay fit.

Nathan Hastie
Who?
Highlanders third stringer... we don't really have injury prone halfbacks!

Geoff Hinds
Hines just for the record ...
Muphry's law eh!
I even looked up his Wikipedia page and missed it, I was so focused on getting the Geoff right. I remember Jasin because I always wondered if it was a mistake or deliberate.

I really shouldn't be the one to highlight other's mistakes ... 😀

And that Muphry is nearly as bad as Murphy.

Going back further, i nominate Bevan Wilson, the fullback from the late 70's.
After years of crap 15's he was the real deal in '77, calm under pressure, good goalkicker and pretty good on attack. Only played 8 times due to injuries an retired after 2 years

@Victor-Meldrew 8 games is like 3 seasons back then isn't it?
