The perfect delivery - the top of off stump.
While we kept inexplicably trying to bounce their tail out. Top of off ffs. Eventually they'll get bored and try something.
We did it against Pakistan, too.

What an engine he has.
He was still firing them in 145k after 10 overs straight before tea.
With a busted toe.
The power of youth.

I thought the list of people who have carried their bat would be longer:

The biggest test result in years
That young man has had one of the all time tours of Australia. The shit dreams are made of.
They'll be playing his efforts today alongside some of the greatest players to pull on the shirt -
13 March 1986 and David Boon on that list is the one I always think of. Seven year old me at Eden Park for the first time hadn’t heard the “carried his bat” phrase before. But I remember picking up from my Dad that it was an impressive feat for a batter to do.
However he goes from here as an opener, Steve Smith has joined a special list.

On the flip side, this test was another where the all-time level Australian attack wasn't enough to bail out their fragile batting. The last 2 years they have struggled for consistency, but someone gets enough to provide enough for the bowlers to get the 20 required
But not this time

carrying-bat-through-a-completed-inningsVery erratic gaps between it happening. None between 1910 and 1926 - and several other big gaps in more recent times; then Dean Elgar does it twice in 2 months in 2018 - and then 5 years between Latham and Smith!

Winning a test in Australia is not easy, well done the Windies, magnificent effort.
For all the earlier shit opener comments, some credit to Smith, great innings even to hang in there
