So good to see the West Indies put a performance like that back into world cricket.

Why did oz declare earlier on in the match ?

So they could bowl with a new pink ball under lights.

Hazlewood's batting wasn't going to contribute as much under lights with the pink ball as his bowling

@NTA @LABCAT fair call. Have only caught bits and pieces of this test. Big mistake in the final wash up

Nah. That wasn't what lost it. Was a good call. Got Chandapaul before stumps.

I thought the list of people who have carried their bat would be longer:
    carrying-bat-through-a-completed-innings

The biggest test result in years

That young man has had one of the all time tours of Australia. The shit dreams are made of.
They'll be playing his efforts today alongside some of the greatest players to pull on the shirt

13 March 1986 and David Boon on that list is the one I always think of. Seven year old me at Eden Park for the first time hadn’t heard the “carried his bat” phrase before. But I remember picking up from my Dad that it was an impressive feat for a batter to do.

However he goes from here as an opener, Steve Smith has joined a special list.

On the flip side, this test was another where the all-time level Australian attack wasn't enough to bail out their fragile batting. The last 2 years they have struggled for consistency, but someone gets enough to provide enough for the bowlers to get the 20 required

    But not this time

It’s outstanding, could only have been a better dream start by hitting a ton at 11. Hopefully he’s inspired plenty of Caribbean kids too.

Very erratic gaps between it happening. None between 1910 and 1926 - and several other big gaps in more recent times; then Dean Elgar does it twice in 2 months in 2018 - and then 5 years between Latham and Smith!

Winning a test in Australia is not easy, well done the Windies, magnificent effort.

For all the earlier shit opener comments, some credit to Smith, great innings even to hang in there

Haha one innings and 3 failures do not make an opener.
    We will see

    @Chris 6 and 12 were bad

    91* was good.

Not sure what he's meant to do about 11*

Ah yeah. He should have got the other 15 on offer in an innings total of 26 to win 🤔

Or at least 12* not 11* a complete fail.
