    He's hardly my favourite player, but I do sympathise with him on this. His tackling might be an issue, but he's been made a victim of Rugby's utterly broken refereeing and disciplinary systems. text here

    How Owen Farrell, rugby’s man of steel, was pushed to breaking point

    A red card shown for a high tackle in England's World Cup warm-up against Wales drew a spotlight on Farrell like never before

    fair play to him, he's pretty driven and everyone who's ever played with him rates him as a player and a leader - Lions is a good example - that's a good enough yardstick for me. Don't really care whether other fans think he's a dick, he's our dick. Shame he feels the need to take a break but hope he enjoys his season for Sarries and hope it gives Borthwick the chance to try and play some rugby.

    Not sure Smith deserves the shirt at the moment, his game and his kicking definitely falling off after the world cup at club level. Probably leaves us with George Ford or Finn Smith who i haven't seen enough of to have a strong opinion. We have quite a few players either retiring or injured which could make for a painful 6N if the Irish, French and Scots are smarting after earlier than planned exits.

    @Dodge

    Always felt Farrell doesn't quite fit position-wise. Was he a 10 or a 12?

    As you say the 6N's will be interesting as Borthwick will have some opportunities to try new(er) players

    Midi Olympique are reporting that Owen Farrell has signed a 2 year deal with Racing 92 from the summer. Farrell has already made himself unavailable for the 6 Nations and the summer tour.

    So England will need to find a new captain. George Ford should be their main 10.

    Racing 92 have come out and said there's no deal, but certainly leaves the doors open for still under negotiation

    @Machpants Lots of other newspapers are reporting that Owen Farrell is in advanced talks with Racing 92. Midi Olympique jumped the gun by saying that he had already signed with the French club.

    Ex-England coach Stuart Lancaster is Coach of Racing 92 so it makes a lot of sense, Owen Farrell going there.

    Yup that was my point, they very specifically said there was no deal. Doesn't mean that they're just about to sign him

    Apparently ladies lions is getting close to a go, for to NZ first. Problem is it will basically be England. Maybe it should morph into NH v SH, Ozzie and SA would get smashed unless there is big improvements, possible I guess.

    I see the NZ press has picked up on a couple of Telegraph articles about Ethan Roots

    Apparently he's a decent chance of making the England 6N squad?

    Flanker has impressed at Exeter and could perform the same role for Steve Borthwick as he does for Rob Baxter

    Exeter flanker was alienated from rugby as a teen but, after dabbling in MMA and a stint on building sites, is now close to an England call

    @Duluth

    I’m not sure how he went at the Ospreys but he’s been good for Exeter, one of those back rows that is just a complete nuisance all over the park. 6 though is a position of strength for England, so there’d be a few ahead of him in the queue.

    @Machpants depends on what position, I was assuming wide receiver or similar but does the article state otherwise?

    Apparently this guy is one of the best the last couple of years. I'd say LRZ is probably bigger than him.

    Cool, as I said I know fuck all apart from buys in helmets smashing together. He's joining the NFL training pipeline/programme, so position TBC I guess
